Single battery setups

The Diehard Group 31M is made by the same company as the Odyssey Group 31M battery. Specs are identical. I'm not aware of any differences between the batteries. If you can't get the DieHard Battery, you may be able to buy the Odyssey version.

Here's a link to their site: http://www.odysseybattery.com/battspecs.html

Battery is: 31M-PC2150

The difference is the weight of each battery. The Diehard is a few pounds lighter (less lead?) thus not the same battery. I have one of each and have no complaints, both are great. I don't quite agree that two smaller batteries will run down faster that a single give the same specs for each set up. Whether 1, 2, or 3 batteries in the end it's all about battery management.
Cheers

Here is a group 31 sears that I installed in a customers FJ, engine bay location is identical to Tacoma, 4runner. He wanted to go the single battery and this is probably one of the best options. You are looking for good RC reserve capacity and still have strong CCA. I would agree with Montypower that most of the dual battery systems are insufficient....on another note I love my dual/capable of 3 battery system with interstates.

I used the customer supplied plastic battery tray, but I am going to build an aluminum tray for it soon.

Cam-shaft.
thanks cam-shaft for the info. No as for the mounting did you utilize the factory hardware or did you have to get longer anchors?

What is a SPOD?

Do you have any pics of the two different batteries next to each other and any of your set up?

I installed a group 65 also but I just opened up the fuse box and replaced the hot lead from the battery with a longer one. I am not a fan of coupling wiring together to make them longer, the fuse box just pulls apart and snap back together. You can by the red lead longer jumper at any auto parts store, I did not have to do anything with the ground.

If you want to get carried away, I run a low voltage cut off on mine. Its a priority start marine. Basically it disconnects the battery at ~11.5 volts. In theory enough to start again. Nice peace of mind with a single batt. to reconnect you run a small accessory, ie horn, parking lights and it reconnects.

Ya I'm going to run a national Luna single battery monitor with alarm. It should sound when there is just barely enough juice left to start the truck. Thanks for looking out tho man
