Ya they are a little more expensive. The power of the x10 would be nice but I just didn't think I would need it. This should work good enoughg for my needs

FWIW, I recently got an XP-10 to jump start dead batteries like the one in my GMC2500 6.0 V8. I charged the XP overnight and hooked it up. NOTHING. Checked all the connections, tried the boost. NOTHING. I had to use my shop charger/starter to get the truck going. I returned the XP and would not trust one in the middle of nowhere much less at home.

I asked this question in a different thread but Odyssey told me these 31m batteries won't charge properly with the standard 95 amp LC alternator. What's been you guy's experience with that. She told be about sulfation and other stuff I didn't quite understand.

Is anyone running a single battery ie like a deep cycle marine battery or big amg? Doing this instead of a due battery set up? I would like to see pics of any if anyone has some.

Just curious cause I would like to put a bigger battery in my Tacoma but I don't really have a need for a secondary one. I will prob never run a fridge or anything. Just would be nice to run a couple aux led lights off of the roof rack I'm getting at night.

Thanks appreciate any help.

I have an Odyssey PC1700 in the stock location.

I had not heard that myself. I'd also like to hear how those single battery setups are working out after a year or more, and whether anyone has used an external charger for 'maintenance' because their alternator wasn't getting the job done.

I would think there would be a minimum charging amperage necessary for recovering a discharged battery, but that even something like 40A-50A would be sufficient for a 'car' battery that's seeing that charging cycle for an hour or more on a daily basis.

Then again, I've been wrong too many times before to think I have all the answers. Hopefully we'll get some other input here. :coffeedrink:

EDIT: I sent a PM to uscg2008 and montypower, asking them to chime in on how the single battery setup is working after a long-term period with a stock alternator.

My Odyssey PC-1700 set up with 150A Bussman breaker set up to my alternator on a separate charging circuit, 120A Bussman breaker set up for the BlueSea Fuse Block.

in my '10 Tundra. PM-1

have a PM-2 in my '10 4runner and it is just as good :)

and as an edit---- I have been running this battery (and a winch, arb fridge, my slide in camper that adds as an accessory to the alt. when plugged in) for over 3 years now. I have never had any issue with charge, or amperage.
I do have an Xtreme Charge X2 charger http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/xtremeChargex2.php that i use on all my batteries and it has desulfation modes, but i have actually never put my Tundra PM-1 on it. I use it for my crawler mostly cuz it sits around more. (it has an Oddesey 1500 in it from a time before i knew about the Dihard Platinum batteries similarities.)

No issues with my 31M. I sold the Taco in March/April 2014. Since then I've put the 31m into the 03 Montero (installed in June 14). It is running the same 63qt arb. Never had a dead battery. Never put a charger on it. Plenty of extended camping trips and heavy winch use. No problems. Still on the original alternator.

I'm pretty sure I am going to try the 31M battery in my truck once the price comes down after winter. My current battery will definitely need replacing after this winter and I like the simplicity of the single setup.

I'm sticking with the single battery as well. The OE Panasonic battery in my '08 FJC is starting to get a little sluggish finally. :coffeedrink:

I wish every battery lasted that long.

Trying an Interstate MT7 this go around (after running Optimas for years, only got 3 years out of the last Redtop...no beuno), too early its life to have an opinion on it though.

Bad pic but, I'm still rockin' my Optima Yellow top from 2004. Connected to it is my XRC10 winch and a Blue Sea fuse block mounted in the bed. I have a 150 amp aftermarket alternator charging it.

These are pretty cool, I like your setup with the Pelfreybilt cage and 31M too! I'm gunna have to upgrade soon so I've been on the hunt for diehard sales

I am running a DEKA Group 31 AGM battery in the stock location in my FJ cruiser. I have a Dometic CF-50 fridge that has lived in the car non-stop for the past 3 years. Only had one dead battery when I fell asleep by the campfire with the stereo playing all night. Otherwise no issues. It often sits all weekend and starts strong come Monday morning. Weekends in the desert in 90+ degree temps, etc. don't seem to phase it. I've accidentally left the fridge running for 3-5 days when I fly out for business trips and it has always started strong when I return. I'm thinking about adding a 120w solar panel to my roof rack and a charge controller for a little extra piece of mind, but for the past 3 years I've had no need for it.
