"Skinny" tires on a Full-Size?

255/85R16s are my favourite on a full size truck.
2nd choice 235/85R16s or old school 7.50R16s for a truly tall and skinny tire.

Switching from 33x10.50R15s to 7.50R16s I went from 17mpg to 22mpg adding a theoretical 95 miles to my range. And yes, real world that added range is accurate. My son lives 400kms away. I could never do it an 1 tank, now I get there on 1 tank without the low fuel light blinking at me.

I'm going to go with Toyo AT3 in a 255/85-17 soon. Quadratec has them for $193 if you apply a forum discount (WranglerForum) and Discount Tire will price match.
This will be on my 2020 Ram 1500 Classic, btw. My trailer is in the 3000 pound range.

I don't see the 85 size but Discount Tire Direct offers this. No tax,no shipping. https://www.discounttiredirect.com/buy-tires/toyo-tire-open-country-a-t-iii

After many years using LT285/75R16, I changed to LT305/70R16 - same diameter but almost an inch wider. The ability to run lower air pressure with the larger tires dramatically improved the generally terrible ride quality (on bumpy roads) of my Sportsmobile.

Is an F150 considered a full size in this discussion or do we mean 3/4-1 tons?

I ran KO2 in LT235/80R17, and then switched to the LT34x10.5R17 size.
The narrower shorter tires had the truck getting better fuel economy and better acceleration, and were way better than the P235/75R17 that came with it.
Both look better to me than 33x12.5.
I never really ran the 235 off road though, as my truck was in fleet duty then.
The 34x10.5 run small and I was looking for a true to tall 33 that was skinny. Wasn't much selection in 255/80R17 at the time like there is now.

My truck has a 275/55/20 and I am looking at 275/60/20. I want to go with a 275/65/20....buuuut they are all heavy as hell because that's where thr LT sizes start. I have found one tire (Nitto Terra Grappler G2) thats a 275/65/20 thats "only" 48 lbs, but the tread pattern is far more aggressive than what I need... Still thinking about getting them because they would look cool...haha.

worn 285/75R16 Terra Grappler vs new 255/75r16 Toyot MT. you can see the broken belt on the top of the 285
