Sleeping in the XJ - 2 people

Is it even possible? I've done my searching and everything I see is for one person and removing the passenger seat. So then who gets to accompany you on trips?

Does anybody sleep 2 people in a XJ? I was just slightly jealous of BKcowgod and Cltypes32 sleeping in their pickup trucks (even though they have lots of space to do that with!

These two traveled several continents sleeping two up in a XJ Cherokee and they're still on speaking terms! They wheeled hardcore wherever they went. If it weren't for two flops, their XJ may still be on the road.

Thanks! If you put a mattress up to the rear seats like that, does anyone know the length that it provides?

I would think that just sleeping in an unmodified XJ with a partner might be kind of a tight fit. I slept in the back of mine once and had to lay out diagonally, I'm only 5'5". And even then it was uncomfortable because my foam pad wouldn't unroll out all the way.

Not comfortable at all!! Tried it in December- both with a roll out foam mat and then with an air matress. Slept diagonal with the bottom section of the back seat removed and the front seat slid forward. Center console is still in the way and my feet where up against the window. I am only 5'9" but wont try that again.

I have slept more comfortable in the front seat with it kicked back and reclined.

Take out the back seat (seat back and bottom) and see what length you have.

You can fill in the foot well space with gear etc. or cut a pice of plywood and make a shelf to fill in the gap. I have done something similar in my H3 for camping trips. I have room for tools and gear under the platform.

You might have to slide the driver and passenger seats up all the way to get 6-feet.

If all your boxes and cooler are the same height you might meable to sleep on top of your gear in a pinch.

I've sleep in mine , but I left the back open and draped tarps for privacy.
Looking at finding a DAC Explorer II SUV tent now. It will give me more room and the ability to keep the bugs out better.
Unfortunately, when I find one for sale used, its in another state...:(

I havent tried it yet, but I've got a twin sized airbed that Im gonna try and fit in the back of my 95. I measure, and the width between the wheel wells is perfect (40", the airbed is 39") and length should work out if I take out the back seat. The end of the matress will be stuck up against the back of the center console, I measured that, and it came out to about 73"ish, and the airbed is about 75" long, but it should work.

I have a ZJ and have slept in the back of mine with my girlfriend several times. My rear seats fold down and the bottom half come out and I have a coleman suv air mattress that fits very well.

looks about like that:

we lived in that vehicle
2003 for 6 months
2005 for 2 months
2006 for over 6 months
and on several 2-week, long-weekend and weekend trips...

my thought on this would that you'd have to be either relatively short (i'm over 6' so i wouldn't want to do this with another dude) and thin, or really like to cuddle with your bunk mate.

i pushed the seats all the way up front, when streched out, rested my feet on the center console and yes, i like to cuddle with my bunk mate, my wife ;-))

I recently went on a 4 day trip in my Xj and slept like a rock in the back. I had the seat bottom removed, slid and flipped the seats as far forward as I could get them and slept on a queen size blow up mattress. It was a little too big as the sides would fold up a bit over the wheelwells, and a full would fit perfect. I'm 6'3 and if I slept in the dead center with my pillow on the center console I could stretch all the way out. If I could install the 2dr hardware in the seats to allow them to flip all the way forward, my wife and I could easily sleep with plenty of room. I plan on bulding a platform to make it level with the wheelwells and give some room for storage undeneath.
