Smartphone questions?

I've never owned one, closest I've come is Ipod Touch. It's time for an upgrade from Verizon, so I've started looking at phones.

So far the one's I've looked at are Droid X, Droid Incredible, and Storm 2. What is really the difference between the two new droid's besides companies really?

Any other phones I should look into?

Technology isn't my strong suit lol.

For a smartphone I really dig the Android platform.
The Droid 2 is coming out very soon.
Twice the CPU speed I believe than my first gen Motorola Droid.

Here is where I get my Droid fix.
it is hard to keep up with the posts there, as they fly off of the geeks fingers as fast as they can type.

A few coworkers have the 1st gen Droid. I really like touch screen, I know battery killer tho.

Seems to me that the android platform is much more user friendly than the Blackberry. I never got used to my mom's curve.

Something else I need maybe a little more understanding on, since verizon is planning to drop unlimited data. I've read plans are 2gb and 250mb, How much is 2gb of usage on a normal bases or any way to give me an idea?

Verizon is not planning to drop unlimited data, when they offer 4G plans they may switch to a limited but the current 3G plans are unlimited.

BlackBerry's best strength is the BIS which integrates it with Microsoft Exchange so if your not getting a company exchange integrated one then you may as well do to android.

The Droid X is just a bigger screen version of the Droid, I'd wait for the droid 2 personally as the Droid I find is big enough.

Battery life for the Android based is on par with other smartphones, better than some, worse than others, its not bad unless your comparing to a 'dumb' phone.

The GPS is pretty good on my droid, once you turn off the location by networks so it uses the GPS chip only the accuracy is about equal to my Garmin ETrex Legend HCx. I can zoom in google maps satalite view and walk around the fence in my back yard and see my position along the fence.

Dell Streak (?)

extra large screen. touted as the intersection of phone and tablet so for our purposes, can this device become the moving map / phone / photo keeper organizer / quasi-laptop all in one.

Rumor on cnet.com and other places is that it will be an AT&T device. May be interesting to consider and it runs Android

as for data plans, 250MB is almost nothing, 2GB is a LOT...for all the griping about ATT cutting their unlimited (and it will come to most carriers eventually IMO)...my wife's been on iPhone for a few years now, downloads apps like you won't believe, and browses the internet nonstop, and she's never gone over 2GB...close a lot, but never over (she has unlimited plan anyways)...she does keep her wifi on at the house, so she uses the house internet, and now that startbucks has free wifi, and so many free wifi spots out there, I think using 2GB would take work.

Just my 2 cents :)

I've got a Blackberry issued by work and a Droid X as a personnel device. The capabilities of the Droid X exceed those of my Blackberry by far.

I love my Droid moto 2.1!

As far as battery life, I use the 'Task Killer' app, it turns off any unused/not needed apps. And you can select which ones it turns off/leaves on each time, so say if you want to close 'Google Maps' and 'weatherbug', but leave the Pandora radio on, you can.

This really helps bettery life.

I can get 3 days without recharging using just the phone and text. (unless I'm out of range and it's 'Searching for Service', then it goes down fast)

Battery life is better than my last 'dumb' phone. (a G'Zone from Verizon)

I ended up with storm 2 and was free because we ended up with two blackberries ($50 bucks for other).
So couldn't justify the money for new droid. I have to say the droid x is even bigger than droid.

X2 on the taskiller. Works unbelievably well. Multiplies battery life by 2 or 2.5 times
