Great report, I need to be more open minded a trip this this seems right up my ally if I could just let go of my fears...

Thanks for the inspiration.

That was a heck of a 24 hour adventure! I wish my husband and I would have gone to Payson rather than 4 peaks, but snow is snow.

I have seen the grand canyon look like that as well (minus the snow):

Nice trip report. I lived in Flag for about a year and managed to get all over AZ while I was there, unfortunately I wasn't into wheeling at the time so I missed out on all the forest roads. I've been to the GC too, but it was boring compared to your trip! I do miss the SW, but I have all the snow I could want up here in MI. :)

In 2006 I toured North Central AZ in the snow living in my suburban for a week between Christmas and New Years, spent two days at the Grand Canyon. I think winter is the best time to go, almost no tourists, the place is extremely peaceful. Occaisionly the cloud would lift allowing you to see to well down into the canyon, the place is a "must experience in winter atleast once" place.

Awesome! We almost could have met up, had I known about this forum a week or so ago. I drove nearly a 4000mile round trip, from Edmonton to the South Rim where you were to ride my Harley there. Well, I found out it got snowed in and ended up riding the Harely in the snow down part of Route 66 at the west end of the canyon. Would only have been an extra 2 hours to where you were and it was on the same day:)

that's quite a ride on a cruiser, sounds like a fun trip though!

Very cool trip, thanks for sharing.

I got the privilege of sitting in that parking lot coming south out of Flag for about 3.5 hours.
I was stuck from munds park to hwy 179. Good times. :) Being on the clock helped a bit.

Thanks again for the report.

Awww, those Grand Canyon shots look like AWESOME backpacking weather!

It would take twice as long to get to the bottom, but what a sight it would be!
