Snow testing

Almost a foot. I just had my entire family cracking up as that bus spun around.

A foot counts as getting hit for sure!

My family had great fun watching the video too. My 4 year old was cheering the bus on right into the pole. Good stuff, good stuff.

Apparently Bellingham hadn't used any of it's snow removal equipment for many years, so it sold it all.

I grew up in Wisconsin and Michigan. SO i learned to drive in the snow as a 3rd grader on my Honda ATC 90, then racing on the frozen ponds as a 15 year in a 74 Plymouth Duster I bought for $15 because it had no exhaust and only ran in reverse. My buddy welded a straight pipe right off the manifold and out the hood. Good times.

4" is enough to scare the wits out of most people here north of Seattle. And yes, we live on a very steep hill. The legitimate problem is that it doesn't really get removed so it turns into a sheet of ice.

I went to Christmas Eve at my sis in law's on steep hill in Magnolia and I couldn't believe the cars stacked up into each other at various levels of the hill. Ouch. THey just keep sliding until another car breaks their free fall.

If you want to dig out the classics, youtube search portland ice car '07 .

We had a total of 2" down here which turned to ice after the first car drove on it. The wind was another problem, We were hit with 45+ mph wind coming across Rosario Straight all night long. No trees down here but lots of branches and pine needles turned whatever snow fell green.
Had to deal with a sunken sailboat the other night, went back at low tide to dig it out and get some float bags on it (it had a very big hole), then towed it over to the boat ramp and got it an a trailer.

Just curious. Exactly how much snow does it take to hammer and pound the Pacific NW?
I was hoping someone would find humor in that remark : )
Only about 2 inches and they close the schools down!
I'm from Reno so used to driving around in the stuff and it dosn't bother my wife and i, though our vehicles and driving skills are prepped for it when it comes.

PS. Just thought of this as there were those in AK who noted the humor in my original.
I am working with a nice family man who just relocated his family from Anchorage to Astoria. We had a some wind blow through the week before last with gusts up to around 55. He was like, WTHeck? We said ah, that's nothing, wait till the local NOAA weather station sends out the typical info that we have gusts over 110mph, now that's a _winter storm_ :) So...weather can be all relative. And he did state the roads were a PIA after the snow/ice, as we have no removal equipment, we are all on our own.
