Socal to Alaska Sept '08

I just drove the alkan from Tucson this may. The road is 99% paved in excellent condition with ample services. Any bike that you are comfortable on for long distances should be fine. I was actually a little dissappointed by the number of wendy's and boston pizza kitchens en route. The scenery is great though, especially once you approach the coastal range. I have heard that there was some construction between haines jct. and tok last month. Don't know when they will be finished.

I am in skagway till the end of sept. Then back to AZ via the cassiar and pacific coast. drop me a line if you're up this way. Good luck!

Don't forget A&Ws. I have started to see the wagon train of RVs starting to head south. Some of the migatory birds are thinking the same thing. I spoted a green winged teal, and a pintail in the sloughs yesterday. In a week or so the sandhill crains will try to nagotiate the passes of Chugach and Kenai Mountains.

As for the bike tour pack your rain gear, it has been wet.
