Once upon a time the HAM subforum at ar15.com had an extensive topic of 'show us your field box', chock full of various home-built arrangements of various radios in things like pelican cases. But I can't seem to find it now. And the HAM forum seems to have been severely pruned. I know it took a big hit when Photobucket decided to take everyone's images hostage. There were a lot of very interesting concepts and specialty hardware descriptions and sourcing. It was a tremendous resource.

arf did dial the entire outdoor section down recently. I still drop in once in a while.

OK, have not been able to tackle this like I hoped. Tomorrow a group of parents from school are taking our kids to the local shooting range. I have been prepping and painting a bunch of steel for them to plink on.

I did get the last two pieces needed to complete the top panel fitting. From here it is wiring, which my son and I will do together. Before the wiring, I will cerakote the top panel Titanium or sniper gray, not sure which matches best yet.

Here is a photo of the radio face mount. The separation cable will fit down the slots left from being bent up. This may be the only spot that shows cable as the face mount routes the cable out the side, so a loop may be needed to pull back down the slots. Not 100% sure yet.

Should have painted that steel Barney Purple! Did I mention that I can't stand Barney and Sponge Bob.

Please do yourself a favor and never use more than low power on that antenna and sitting that close to it. RF exposure is real.

The antenna will be on a mag mount with a 12' coax, I put it on as a fit check and kinda liked it but I too have a healthy regard for RF.

Funny but I have those colors, they are popular. Sig pink, robins egg blue, purple (it has a name but i forget it), dewalt yellow, etc. I have sprayed more sig pink and purple this year than any combined, probably a quart of each.

RF exposure is just another plot by the overregulating EPA.

Here hold the end of this wire so I can test my 1.5Kw amplifier. Oh no it chared the bone! Ask the ultrasound techs and physical therapist about bone deep burns. BTW it wasn't the EPA that set RF exposure limits it was FCC and FDA. RF exposure risks have been know since before WWII. Ask radar techs about going blind because of RF exposure.

Kinda of a tongue in cheek joke playing on the anti-regulatory talk I see here frequently.

Cherry picking what to believe what is valid vs invalid government backed research.

Sorta like the lead bullet debate.

Tryin' not to be too PC, lol.

Read the banned industry exposé. ”Dangers of Radio Frequency, the New Monsanto” by R.F. Burns. Its enlightening.
Wont use a cellphone or wifi ever again.

Btw, nice target. But a Babyseal?
That seems out of place in desert environment.

So, you are "enlightened" about wave length and it's size. LOL As we lose bandwidth, we go to the shorter wave length and consequntly even low wattage can penetrate the small orifaces of a human body/ WIFi, cell spectrum, etc. are all capable of entering the eye, ear and nose cavities and doing "who knows what" to our brains.

OK, I know I'm probably preaching to thee choir but it still makes me wonder what we will be like three gens from now.

OH, the target is supposed to be a prairie dog. LOL

Had a few hours last night to get some stuff done. Here are some bottom panel details:

Showing 40ºc temp switch that will control fan, note mounts too, integrated to hold up a little higher than a stock mount.

you can see the top/bottom panel stand offs too in this pic, the distance is 4.80", gives me a 3/4" air gap over battery:

BAM!!! You got it! Glad you added the center support. Find you some acorn nuts for securing the top panel or use those points to secure your rubber bumpers. You will thank me later when you notice you scrape then every once in awhile.

How did you do your cut outs for the mounts? Looks like you corner drilled them and then used something to cut them.
