1989 TOYOTA PICKUP, XTRA CAB, DLX, 4WD, 3.0L V6, AUTO TRANS, AC, 148,100 MILES

Asking $3,900 (NADA average retail = $3,300, high retail = $4,325)

We bought this truck in 2006 with 99,000 miles on it. After that it spent most of the time at our place in Colorado and was used only during vacations. Now that we are retired we need a full size truck for an RV trailer.

This sub-forum is called “For Sale, Expedition Vehicles”. While this truck does not qualify as an ExPo vehicle, it is well suited for Back-country Adventures. It has taken us around the Alpine Loop, over Tincup Pass, Medano Pass and on innumerable other trips on the roads less traveled in Colorado.

The truck is low mileage, clean and well maintained. It has been adult owned and driven. It's a survivor - the engine, drive train and suspension are in unmodified, stock condition. No dogs and no smoking so the interior is clean and in fine condition. This truck could be used as-is or as a great starting point for a restoration.

Vehicle is located in Raton NM and has current New Mexico registration. The title is clean, clear and in my name.

Engine runs great. It uses no more than one quart of oil in 3,000 miles. Recently got 20.2 MPG on a round trip from Raton NM to Pueblo CO. Gets 14 MPG around town.

No leaks except for a power steering fluid drip.

Transmission operates as it should. Positive shifts and no slipping.

All 4WD components including transfer case and manual hubs operate as they should.

Tires are General Grabber AT2 all terrain, LT235-85-R15 with 75% tread and in excellent condition. There are two mounted spares in excellent condition.

All gauges, warning lights, accessories, switches and lights operate. Exception is the dome light.

No body rust and the original paint shines.

Frame is solid and most of the paint is still on it.

AC converted to R134 and is ice cold.

Have a 1/2” folder with maintenance receipts going back to 1996.

Owners manual, factory jack and a partial factory tool roll included.

ARE aluminum camper shell with contractor doors and screened tilt out windows.

Known Defects:
--Slight leak from power steering pump.
--Could use new front rotors - slight pedal pulsation.
--Dent in right rear corner under tail light.
--Older paint touch-up on tailgate.
--Front valence has some wrinkles.
--A few scratches and dings.
--Slight upholstery wear on outside of drivers seat.
--Dash has one crack.
--Dash bezel modified to install aftermarket radio.
--Radio antenna base loose. Radio powers up but no reception.
--Dome light does not work.

Non -original items:
--Has later vintage Tacoma steel wheels.
--Rear bumper is an aftermarket replacement.
--Blaupunkt AM/FM/Cassette in dash radio and aftermarket speakers in rear.
--12V power point added to center console.
--Under bed spare tire carrier was removed.

Regarding the 3.0L head gasket problem and recall:

I took the truck to the Toyota dealer in Trinidad for an inspection. The Master Technician there did the inspection and explained to me that the '88 thru early '90 3.0L engines had good head gaskets and were not subject to the recall. The gaskets used for late '90 thru early '95 engines were of a different design and the failure rate was high. These vehicles were recalled to replace head gaskets proactively whether failed or not. To back this up he gave me a copy of a Toyota document describing a “Special Policy Adjustment” for early engines and the “Special Service Campaign” (recall) for the late engines.

The bottom line is that the head gaskets in this early engine are no more prone to failure that any other.

There are two embedded photos below, but please use this Imgur link for a full set pf photos. These include exterior, interior, engine bay, undercarriage and the listed visual defects:

Will this truck make a drive to New Jersey as is?

Looks like one way flights are cheap from NYC to Denver but it’s over 200 miles to Raton from there

This is something I may consider doing — How much time do I have to decide? Anyone serious yet?

I regret the delay in responding, but it's sold.

Well, I get it. Those of us who appreciate the old iron aren't crazy, we're special.

We drove 1,200 miles one way to buy the full size replacement for this Toyota. It's a '93 Dodge W250 with the Cummins. From one extreme to the other.
