We've been getting questions about what makes this national park and shipping container friendly and why that matters. Here's some more info:

There are several advantages to having a vehicle that can fit in a shipping container, especially for adventure or expedition purposes. Some of the key advantages include:

1. Protection and Security: Vehicles that can fit in a shipping container are more likely to be protected from external elements like saltwater, extreme weather conditions, and potential theft. Shipping containers provide a secure and enclosed environment that can help keep your vehicle and belongings safe during transit.

2. Preservation of Gear: If you have specialized gear, such as a folding kayak, hiking equipment, or cooking supplies, keeping them inside the same shipping container as your vehicle can ensure that everything arrives at the destination intact and ready for use. This minimizes the risk of damage, loss, or theft that could occur if gear and vehicle were transported separately.

3. Convenience: Having all your personal gear and equipment within the same shipping container as your vehicle offers convenience and ease of access. You don't need to worry about arranging separate transport or dealing with multiple shipments, which can simplify your travel logistics.

4. Cost Efficiency: Shipping a vehicle and your gear together in one container can potentially be more cost-effective than arranging separate shipping methods for your vehicle and personal belongings. This could also reduce overall shipping expenses.

5. Peace of Mind: Knowing that your vehicle and belongings are securely packed in a container can provide peace of mind throughout the shipping process. You can be confident that everything will arrive together and be ready for your adventure once you reach your destination.

6. Minimized Exposure to Elements: Shipping containers provide a protective barrier against salt spray, rain, and other environmental factors that could potentially damage your vehicle and equipment during transit. This is especially important for vehicles and gear that are not designed to withstand prolonged exposure to harsh conditions.

7. Customization: Depending on the type of shipping container you use, you might have the option to customize the interior to securely store your gear and equipment. This can further enhance the safety and organization of your belongings.

8. Reduced Theft Risk: Vehicles that don't fit in containers are more susceptible to theft, as they are exposed and easier to access. A vehicle inside a container is less likely to be a target for theft, and your gear is less likely to be stolen since it's stored within the container.

Overall, having a vehicle that fits in a shipping container can be a practical and advantageous choice for adventurers and travelers who want to ensure the safety, security, and convenience of their vehicle and personal gear during transit.

When it comes to hitting the road, it's not just about the places you want to go but also about where your camper can take you. Many national parks have height and width restrictions for vehicles, ensuring that our beautiful natural wonders remain preserved. Having a camper that fits within these restrictions isn't just a rule; it's a ticket to experiencing the heart of nature. It means you can roam freely, delve into hidden trails, and camp under the starlit sky, all while respecting the environment. So, choosing the right-sized camper isn't just about rules – it's about embracing the true essence of adventure, respecting the land we love, and ensuring future generations get to enjoy it too. Let's keep the spirit of exploration alive, responsibly.

Let us know if you have any further questions!

Bill,

How many amp hours do you want?

It also depends on who installs it, but likely in the $10-15k range. I put a 600 Amp hour internally heated Lithionics battery & BMS and a new inverter in a previous EC for about $8k in parts.

The swap to lithium would require the solar charger be reprogrammed (pretty easy to do) and likely a new inverter/charger. Although if you never plan to plug it in, or only to charge up depleted batteries (but not sitting on the charger long term), the current one could be programmed to accommodate a multi-stage lithium charge.

Thanks, Steven. That’s helpful.

I’m not sure it’s actually needed, since the entire system is so 12v oriented.

Big update on Marmot the EarthCruiser! We're still on the mission to find the perfect match for this rig, and with our 5 years of full-time EarthCruiser living, we've got the insider intel on this platform, the cab, and the house.

Now, let's talk about the overhaul this EarthCruiser has undergone over the last couple months. From top to bottom, we've tackled almost every little, medium, and one big thing that came our way. The major deal? A brand spanking new transmission. There had been this intermittent grinding noise for years, going into first and reverse, and despite EarthCruiser saying it was normal, our instincts said otherwise. Off to Denver it went, and it's now rocking a 1-year unlimited mileage warranty and the latest and greatest internals, (upgraded from the 2014 Duonic internals). The Fuso dealer also handled 2 recalls, fixed a minor leak at the transmission fluid filter, and gave the whole truck a mechanical once-over. So everything is in perfect working order.

Now, onto the other fixes:

  • New rubber front floor mat
  • New driver's side sun visor
  • New shower light that had been out of commission for years
  • New ceiling fan due to a broken retention clip
  • New Hot water recirculation valve
  • New external shower head
  • Surface rust on EC made brackets wire brushed and rust resolver sprayed
  • Fluid seep at the transfer case and transmission junction fixed with new transmission
  • Fixed the leak in the water screen with a new O-ring
  • Blackout/screen shades received spring re-tensioning
  • Solar panels on the roof were re-sealed at the seams with SikaFlex
  • Caulking upgrades around the shower, bathroom sink, and bed with SikaFlex
  • Galley light was improperly wired to constant power and to the switch at the entry

As you can see we’ve been hard at work to make sure this rig is as turnkey as possible and to fix many issues that have been ongoing for the last couple owners. You can be assured that you are getting an EarthCruiser that has been thoroughly gone though, not just a preliminary certification checklist. We have spent a couple of nights in it and everything is working as it should.

Now, it's not brand spanking new, but the price reflects that. For a used vehicle, it's in stellar shape. Here's the rundown of known issues:

  • Fridge produce tray took a spin in the dishwasher, so it's a bit warped but still functional.
  • Entry stairs got a little bent from hitting a rock with them open. They still work fine, just not perfectly aligned.
  • Spare tire cover has a few tears, but some fabric repair tape will sort that out, which we plan to do.

Got questions and/or interested in taking a look? We're an open book. Steven's EarthCruiser wisdom is top-tier, earned through 5 years of full-time North American adventures, maintenance, and field repairs.
