Solenoid relocation help

I'm in the midst of putting the D1 together and addressing solenoid relocation. I have the bottlejack location wide open for the solenoid but am not sure what my options are from there. Is it possible to relocate the "plug-in/controller hook-up" from the solenoid pack back down to say... the grill? (I dont want to have to pop the hood every time I need recovery)

Or how about integrating the controller to the volume up/down in dash? I think both Marc and Ben have this done and wondered if anyone knew how to.

I'm open to mounting it underside the bumper but it's an M8000 solenoid pack and looks flimsy and non-resistant to aqua

I'm not too familiar with your winch, but you can extend the wiring so that you can locate the controls wherever you'd like.

The plug in for my controller is in the grill.

I don't know about the M8 in particular, but I separated the plug-in and solenoids on my Superwinch years ago.

The solenoids live on the passenger side inner fender (Disco 1) and the plug-in is under the driver's seat.

Just be sure you use substantial cable for the leads between the solenoids and winch motor. I bought a chunk of 00 welding cable and solder-on ends from the local electric supply house when I did my installation.

Works well for me....YMMV.

Good deal...i've got the 2 gauge from a local supply store and will plan on solder the fittings. I thought about extending the plug-in into the cab so i could plug in directly somewhere discreet to the kick panel...but eh... too much work and in some ways too "flashy" for me.

So plan is solenoids in jack compartment, controller plug-in to the grill.

Another problem: Punk kids with a controller hooking in and attaching the hook to the rear bumper via the roofline and winching in...is there a way of incorporating some type of manual switch to activate/de-activate the switch before and after I hit the trail?

Sure, just a simple bullet connector (male on the controller end) on the power supply to the controller socket.
Better yet, a battery disconnect (lockable if it's on the exterior) on the supply to the solenoid pack. I've seen people with stuck solenoids, it's not pretty.
Assuming your battery is in the stock location, #2 is pushing it towards the small side for the distance you're running. I'd use #1.
If you mount your battery disconnect in the cab you'll need to go even larger on the cable from the battery to the disconnect to the solenoid pack, something like 2/0.

Ummmm, that's why mine is inside the vehicle.

The solenoid is mounted on the north end of the bottle jack location where the air box cone stuck out. I have some room in there and wondered since I'm elongating the lead of the plug-in hook-up to the grill.

Is there a connector (male/female) I could use to connect and disconnect the lead wires from the solenoid pack to the plug-in? (I remember seeing this type of disconnect on roof racks at the column so one could take on and off the rack w/out wiring issues.)

Sure I would have to pop the hood to connect/disconnect before a run but that would be a non-issue IMO

See post #7.
If that's too simple a solution, you could always use a 3-way or 4-way (depending on your winch) trailer connector.
