SOS! SOS! 05 TJ Electrical Issue!

HEEELLLP!!!

OK, I have a 05 TJ, and I was working on putting some OEM switches for Aux Off road lights. These were existing lights and switches when I bought it. They tapped into a red wire (approx. 16 – 18 ga.) which is in a loom, just under the steering wheel. When I was trying to identify the power lead to the aux light switch, and the power to the relay (they were both red), I caused a short and blew a fuse or something resulting in no gauges, starter, radio, turn signals. I do have head lights, high beams and dash lights.

I have checked all of the fuses, which appear to be ok (at least visually). I have tried to trace the wire, but I lose it in the loom behind the dash. I did remove the fuse block behind the glove box to look at the wires going in; however, I don’t see the red wire that I believe is the problem. So I am not sure where it goes, but I know it must go to power somewhere.

Can anyone offer any help? I missed a jeep today because of this. Any help would be “GREATLY” appreciated.

Did you check ALL the fuses? I only ask because I popped 1 when doing a radio swap on the wife's LJ. Radio worked but no interior lights or gauge lights. I checked all the fuses that should have affected the interior lights and they were fine. I started checking what wasn't working (blinkers, brake lights, ect) and found the passenger side, side marker lights were out. Once I replaced that fuse the interior lights worked.

Problem solved!!!

Well as it turns out, I apparently did not check all the fuses like I thought I did. I missed one, which happened to be the one that was bad.

Lessons learned: When you have been at it for hours, and it is after midnight, and you are seeing twice as many fuses than there should be, call it quits untill tomorrow, and start again with a fresh mind, fresh eyes, and a more possitive attitude. Chances are that you will solve your problem.

Thank you for your input!

Words of wisdom... cannot even begin to count the times I have been in that scenario. Congrats on fixing the issue.
