I don't remember coming down any obstacles that made me slide more than a foot or so.

How about the Silver Stairs in the snow? I know they're not as bad as they used to be, but going down with the snow & ice must have upped the pucker factor a bit.

Loving the photos gents -

Yea I had a nice little 4 wheel slide during the silver stairs. Most of the driving in that section was just slow and pumping the gas to crawl up. Lot more than I planned on for my first expedition in a brand new truck, but it was a blast!

Yeah -- the only place our water didn't freeze was inside the fridge, at a warm 32ºF!!

Yea my contacts froze solid in the saline solution in the truck..

We stayed pretty warm in my tent with some good sleeping bags. Only downside was getting up at 5am to use the facilities...might have to use a bottle the next time its that cold.

It was an amazing trip. Probably the best I've done so far; expedition style 4WD trips are sweet! I'm looking forward to more now that I've got my own truck :safari-rig:

Did you have to have lockers to help you up those trails? I plan on running that in the spring in my T-100, but am concerned about my lack of a locker.

Also, what about clearance issues on those stairs or Elephant Hill? In only have 31's on right now.

Cool! Another T100 owner. :clapsmile

I did a very similar trip in my T100.

Throughout Beef Basin, the Maze, White Rim and the Needles, I only used my ARB locker for the climb up Elephant Hill. I can't say I absolutely needed it but I flipped it on anyway.

31's would be OK, but I would recommend a more agressive tread than a street tire. I run BFG AT's in a 285/75 which is a 32-33" tall tire. I would also highly recommend airing down when on these trails.

And welcome to ExPo! -

I have read your posts and seen your rig on this and another board that I frequent. I have 31x11.50 Kumho M/T tires and am wanting to get rid of them for 33x10.50 BFG AT's. I just don't like the way the Kumho's ride and have had three sets of BFG AT's. Do you have a front or rear locker?

Rear locker.

I'm of the school of thought that a winch would be better in the front of a vehicle with IFS, than another locker. And now that I think about it, I may have used it once or twice in the Maze District, but as insurance rather than needing it.

I don't wanna hijack the boys Moab trip thread too much, but for 33's without rubbing, you're gonna need some lift. Ball Joint spacers and a small body lift perhaps.

If you can, start a thread on your T100 over in the truck section and I'll kick in what stuff I know that may be of help. I'm curious to see if I recognize your T -

My Taco has a Limited slip rear diff...no locker yet. I run 265/75 BFG All Terrains and had enough clearance to get through. Just gotta have a good spotter and take it slow.

I have the stock BFG Rugged Trails on my Taco (they're about 31") and don't have an overly aggressive tread. I never had trouble. I only used the locker going up the one or two slippery hills.

I don't like using the locker going down the slippery stuff for two reasons- turning on the locker disables the ABS and an open rear diff helps stop the back end from sliding to the side.

I use the locker all the time on more technical trails though.

Did you fab up your RTT rack or buy it? What size Eezi-Awn did you guys settle on?
It's flyingwil's old rack, which he designed for the 1600 -- and it fits perfectly!!

That's n lucky thing, to visit Snoab :D...it's beautiful in the snow.

That steepish hill looks like the entrance/exit to Elephant Hill, no?

Kevin, we brought a stock Tundra (twice, at least) through Elephant Hill, recently and several years back before they paved most of the hard stuff. That truck is about the same size and shape as a T-100. You'll be fine :)...it's not to miss!

Looks like a great trip. How did the dogs like the snow :D?
