Stunning pics!

Nice dog. What is it? Does it have some Chow blood in it's ancestry?
The dog will just have to be my Laptop background pic till further notice

You warm my heart. Carter is a very special fella. He's a special blend of chow, akita, and shepherd.

And throw a waterbottle inside your sleeping bag as not to have frozen water in the morning. And frozen water meant no coffee first thing in the morning.

And even that didn't work on the last night. Even the water in the tent was frozen solid. :(

Yeah -- the only place our water didn't freeze was inside the fridge, at a warm 32ºF!!

What a blast of a trip! I'll admit, it was a little cold at times, but Gretchen and I were never uncomfortable. We've been snowed on in Moab ON Thanksgiving before, so I can't say I was surprised, but it sure made for an adventure!

Thanksgiving Behind the Rocks was awesome. :chowtime: The decision to head south was a good one too though. Jeremy knew a sweet spot to camp at the Goosenecks right on the edge of the canyon.

Saturday we drove through the Manti La Sal's to Beef Basin over snow covered dirt roads. None of us had any problems but Eric and I did play bumper trucks once when skidding on the packed snow!

We finally settled on a spot for our high camp and decide to pack up as much as we could after dinner so we could get an early start in the morning. What a sweet place to camp- in one field of view, we could see snow, trees, boulders, early sun-lit red rock mesas, distant snow covered peaks, and the nearly full moon all at once!

The trail Sunday was really something- we had the first tracks through the Needles. I made myself carsick by looking around! The snow and ice added a little challenge to what would have otherwise been just an amazingly scenic dirt road.

Wheeling with bikes on the roof adds another dimension of challenge. One time I had my head out the window spotting myself under some branches, my bike brushed the tree and knocked a bit clump of snow right down in my face!

Jeremy and I got some 2m simplex time in too. We need to figure out what's causing his radio's range issues and my radio's heat issues. I could hit the Moab repeater on Bald Mesa from about 10 miles into Utah from CO!

:xxrotflma That's classic.

Those are some nice pictures Blake...

Jeremy,
How did the eezi awn mattress do? Did you use or feel the need for an additional mattress?

I thought it did great. But I could see that for anything more than 3 or 4 nights in a row, some thicker padding would be nice.

One night was comfy. Three was hard on the hips. But it's such a palace you don't notice until you get home.

That looks like a much better Thanksgiving than mine. Moab twice in one month Blake - you lucky dog!

Trip and tents...

Sounds like you guys had a great trip minus the snow. Did you fab up your RTT rack or buy it? What size Eezi-Awn did you guys settle on?

I see you got your RTT! Careful . . . they cause babies.

Too funny but true, there have been a few RTT babies since this forum has been created!

Cheers ,

Nice pics guys!

One question... That rocky, ice looking slope, did you come down that? If so, any problems. It looked as if you could just "slide" down. :(

We went up it. That picture is of me walking (and slipping!) down it after spotting Eric up it. You had to get on the gas a little, work the steering wheel, and not chicken out near the top or you'd lose momentum and slide back down.

I don't remember coming down any obstacles that made me slide more than a foot or so.
