Spotmatic a Pro camera?

Can you image a professional photographer showing up to do a job with a 1970´s Pentax Spotmatiic? Who would hire or buy a print from a guy using a $100 camera? Link below to Allan Bruce Zee. After reading " about the photographs"" click on "collections" to see some of his clients and read their comments. He must hide that Pentax from them because everything I have read if you do not have a " Pro" camera you ain´t a professional. He sure has fooled a lot of people.

A friend of mine still has the Pentax Spotmatic he bought in 1970 and he's taken some great photographs with it - Pentax had some really good glass back then. Another friend of mine can sell every Spotmatic he can get his hands on to the local art school students - great camera to learn the basics on.

There was one time I felt like I needed a more "professional" looking camera- at Daytona in 1975 for the 24 Hour race. We were down there with our IMSA RS race car which ran an earlier support race but we had crew pit passes and everything to get us access through the paddock and everything. Just before the start of the 24 hour race several of us crew members walked down to the photographers tower at the end of the pit road and climbed up to get some pictures of the start. A few minutes before the cars fired up a security guard came up and chased everyone off who didn't look "professional". I had a Minolta SRT101 at the time - my friend had a Nikon with a black body - guess who got to stay on the tower? I bought the first black body Canon AE-1 in Atlanta a few months later.

Now i need to go find that Nikon I had in HS and took a college photo class with. It was great and with filters it was fun. Now I start new again with a D90 and crap I forgot a bunch but its fun learning all over again. We have a great photography set of classes at tri community a block from so I cant wait for the next set of classes.
