Patrol in SLC

Hey!

Yup, it is the same car as in the blog. The car is now in White Horse, Canada on its way to Alaska. Will probably drive through SLC on my way south in a couple of months, as I'm kind of on my way to Argentina...

More info about the Patrol and the trip at http://www.unurban.no , and there is a build-thred in a norwegian forum (text is in norwegian, but there is quite a few pics) http://www.nissan4x4.no/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1256

I'll try to post some uppdates from the trip here on ex-po as well!

Hey I sent you a private message recently....

Look me up when you are headed south. I have several Patrols and can take you off-roading here in the Jackson Hole area. I also drove the Pan American HWY last winter as far south as Panama and can give you some tips and advice.

Beers on me!! :)

Cool, if you roll back through SLC let me know. I saw you at Starbucks (I was in my white 100 series) would have stopped for a chat but was short on time..

I hope I see them on the road. Leaving today for the Denali Hwy then to Petersville via Trapper Creek Bluegrass fest. Summers here!

It's the posibility of a diesel that makes that Trol exciting to me... IMO the Patrol IS available in the US it's just called the FZJ80 ;) They're very similar rigs really... Not that Patrols aren't awsome and drool worthy it's just that IMO their configuration (5dr Wagon and SFA)isn't as rare here as say a Troupy (Nissan doesn't make an equiv - and some would argue that the troupy is an access nightmare...and they can be) The Nissans 4.2 Petrol motor is really fun in the sand, as is their Big 4.2(?) Turbo-diesel... The smaller 3.0 had some issues. In my experience with Patrols their biggest enemy is weight on top of an already VERY heavy chasis. They're built like tanks and they weigh as much ;)

Neat trucks though, I shudder to think what would happen to Jeep's sales if Toyota and Nissan offered their SFA "trucks" here in N.America (Yeah I know same sone 476th verse but I can always dream eh ;) Plus IMO it's a;lways good for developpment to have direct competietion...IMO it leads to cool gear and ideas you don't get if you don't have to compete) Sadly though the Patrol has now been sacraficed on the "altar of luxury" and turned into an IFS/IRS rig with tons of electronics... I don't belive they are even making a "service" vehicle model like Toyota does with the 70series along with the 200series... Sad to hear/see IMO, I HATE tis Luxo-barge-trend and was actually happy to see it had mostly been limited to N.America... With this development @ nissan this means the rest of the world is going soft in-between the ears as well...Not good.

Cheers

Dave
