Anyone in the seattle area have one? Would like to compare to the high top but have yet to find one. Surprised there was not a single one at the sprinterfest. Thanks!

I am considering ordering a new 4x4 Sprinter this June, depending on what MB USA offers up. Will get the 4cyl, low top, Crew version and add SMB Penthouse. Then do a very light, versatile build in rear of van...

I own both a hightop Sprinter and a Eurovan Poptop.

The ONLY advantage I see to the Poptop on a Sprinter is having a second "bedroom". I've even considered it for my hightop Sprinter.

Curious what advantages you guys think there are with a low roof and Poptop vs. A highroof?

A low roof + Poptop Sprinter is still too tall for most parking structures, gets about the same mpg (especially with the added drag of the Poptop vs the streamlined highroof), eliminates your ability to stand up inside without popping the top. I can say that one of the big advantages of the high roof is the ability to stand up in it ALL the time instead of only when the top is popped like my Eurovan.

Does anyone know how much height a Poptop one a low roof saves over a highroof? I bet its only 5-6" on a van that is already too tall for standard home garages and public parking structures. Which means it yields virtually zero daily functional advantages in height.

I took this picture in Buena Vista, Co to show the size difference between a Eurovan and a Sprinter before I bought my Sprinter.

For reference, that's a Eurovan "Full Camper" Winnebago conversion. With the rack on it it's probably right around 7' tall. My Westfalia Eurovan has a much sleeker Poptop and won't fit thought my 7' garage door with the Yakima rack on it.

The Sprinter obviously has a Poptop. You can see how tall the Poptop hardware is above the standard roof. But even without the Poptop the low roof Sprinter would be way too tall for any parking structures.

With the poptop it's probably only 6" shorter than a highroof? (And with this rack and solar probably the same height).

Just saying that once it's already too tall for parking structures the next upper limit it like 13'6" or something like that for low bridges, (my highroof is only 8'6" stock) so why not add the extra headroom inside?

Another advantage of the pop top over hightop is the amount of ventilation provided by the canvas.
But this could easily be compensated for by adding large windows that open to the sides of the van.
Generally I agree with Cole that once you are over 6'10 or so there isn't much reason to have a pop top vs high top.
Maybe a slight drivability advantage?

I agree on the ventilation! In warm dry weather I love the natural airflow of my Eurovan. We cured this on the sprinter with a Maxxfan.

But.....in cold weather the Poptop also lets all your heat out. So you lose the ability to stand up comfortably when its cold and wet out.

Just sayin' that if I were to buy a new van and needed two bedrooms, I'd start with a highroof for the best of both.

I am looking to get an on the ground feel for what it is like with the pop top down and the pop top up.

A big advantage (IMO) with the high roof is the large side and rear door opening. I'm 6'1" and I can walk into a high roof sprinter without ducking. Also, you have the option of upper cabinets which keeps the floor space open.
