Starbucks has offered WiFi access in the past, first to subscribers to its own service, then to AT&T data customers (iPhone owners, for example). Starting July 1, the company will offer free access to all comers.

Free Internet access while traveling is pretty simple these days. There are 10,000+ Starbucks restaurants across USA. McDonald's offers free WiFi in 11,500 restaurants in USA. There are only 25,000 towns in USA.

Here's a web page that lists other free WiFi locations across USA.

Its about time, those cheapskates!

I don't have a fancy wizbang phone that has internet or wifi.
I don't have an iPad.

But I do have a laptop where I now have an incentive to make pitstops at Starbucks. And I don't even drink coffee.

I guess I'm a cheapskate. :coffeedrink: <- not coffee

Interesting, my local shop's have it free NOW. and it's been that way for a while now. Odd thing though, on Verizon's site it list some of the same stores as being hot spots under their "sponsership". But ATT is all I've found, so far. Add Panera bread shops to the list of free spots.

I'm amazed that Starbucks is at all popular. I have no real problem with their global domination or anything, but their coffee just tastes terrible.
I'll take a Mcdonalds drip coffee over anything at Starbucks any day.

So you're saying that I've got an ExPo truck so that I can go to Starbucks?
Sounds like I'll have to upgrade to an H2 and get those 20s!
Mom will be so proud. ;-)

To me its just great to have another place that serves free wifi. I'd much rather support the local mom and pop coffee shops, but sometimes I'm in an area that I can't find one and need access to the interwebs. Its also just another place you know you can go sit in the parking lot and 'borrow' their service. :victory:

Saw that on the news yesternight about the free service coming.
If you are around the PNW too, Les Schwab Tire Centers has free wi-fi too.
