Sterling Acterra Fire Rescue Truck Xpediation Conversion

Thank for the advise. I am being very detail with the documentation. Everything that comes out is going in a box. I won't through a screw away because I ha e a lot of interest in this vehicle as a rescue truck. So if I have to revert back for a city purchase I will have all the electronics and to put back in place.

That is a good move for sure! A lot of people just go in like a bull in a china shop and start ripping everything out and trashing it immediately. Considering your career, I'm sure you realize all of this stuff has value to it, maybe not to the general public, but to anyone converting an ambulance to an RV or just wanting to add things to the one they already have built.

This weekend was great. The kids and I depart to see the festivities in Salem with Mello Yello. On our way we had to creep behind Hillary Clinton and the RNC/DNC Senators and Congressman caravan. We followed them for 40 miles. The events was a bit disappointing but it was a good educational event for the kids.

On the ay back we saw a tractor ABS light on the dash. I quickly pulled over and heard air leaking. I limped home immediately went to Alabama Nuts and Bolts to get the valves fixed.
Light still in so have to continue to chase the cause or get a tool to reset now the leak is fixed.

You said earlier in the trip you were getting 13.6mpg but the overall you worked out to be 10.something. Is there a reason the mpg dropped presumably in the last section?
It looks like you got a great truck. Keep your eye on Ozrockrat as he has one with that motor.

Even with the nice unit you bought, you'll have to chase gremlins from time to time. Look for an independent truck repair shop that's close to you thst can be a fall back for repairs you don't want to do or can't figure out. Stay away from dealerships - they'll charge twice as much per hour!

I found one about 2 miles from my home. I don't go to them very often, but they treat me well --- maybe it's because I bring them a big box of donuts in time for their morning coffee break?

It's been a week of oil change, transmission flush, coolant flush, fuel system cleaned and searching for the right seats in order to make the ride comfortable for the kids. We are planning a spring break trip so I need to move fast but I promised myself I would not change the layout unless it was absolutely necessary. I went through 6 different seats configuration before I found a perfect low cost match. If you are looking to convert you bench to a use friendly seat, try the Ford Escape second row seats. The bracket for the mount are a perfect match and it will easily give you the access to the lower compartment. (Second Choice)

Another great option is the 2004 and newer Ford Expedition (First Choice). The third row seats are powered and they have a nice set of legs to mount against the bench box. I opted for (2) sets of the Ford Expedition third row because I liked the power option that will give me a bed with a touch of a button. The single seat on the end might be removed in the final configuration and modified for the jump seat. It was a pain to get the sear out because there was no power to the seat and they were folded flat. Took me 4 hours to secure the seats and along with the wire harness and relays all in tack from Pull-a-part at the cost of $112.00 bucks. The end results are so promising!

As far as the lower compart, I have not figured out how to gain full access to it yet but I was thinking I will add my speakers
and subwooffer for the theater layout along the bottom. If I sleep on it for a day I also might be able to figure out how to get the rear air conditioning unit from the Expediation into this compartment. If this works out I would not have any reason to go under here unless something breaks. So tomorrow I will mount the seats and run the wires to give me a full on demand twin bed layout. (Thoughts of the full size bed is still in the works.)

Is that one or two sets of seats?

I was looking at first class passenger aircraft seats online about a week ago, and they are expensive even for the older ones.

Go with a SUV seat from the salvage yard. Pull-a-part has them for $28.00 to $36.00 bucks a seat and the wire harness is $23.00.

Today I sent the day salvaging for parts. Found a nice Class V hitch, also found a suburban heating unit and and got my hands on a nice propane electric Norcold fridge. Now I am doing the last minute rip out of the oxygen system and moving some electrical so I can make room for the new toys. I also found a great build sheet that tells me I have over 12k of weight to play with in the coach. So I figure I better make room for large water tanks fuel tanks and grey / black tanks. If all goes well I should have a pretty self sufficient rig in the end. Then of course when I am done I will rip it all out and start over with a fully insulated interior and custom built seating. (three years from now)

On. It has been a busy week as we lrepafor spring break. I do all for my sears mounted and laid out correctly so they fold down flat. Had to bit a quick release pin to make the folding feature work out the way it was designed. I also got my wet panel area configured in the bay with the hot water heater. We have a generator box being made to see if we can quiet down the military MEP-803 Generator so it can meet U. S. park regulation requirements.

More to follow as I work I thru the night to meet the deadline for departure with the kids.

We got everything back in place just in time for a Spring Break trip to Pensacola Blue Angles RV Park. We got the 65in Samsung TV installed, the roll out slider that will quadruple as a camping bed, balcony, Bar and BBQ platform. Oh and my son even says we can fish off of it and can slide it over the bridge. I really like the simple engineering behind this piece of furniture. We also added the 1500watt inverter since we have a 250 amp alternator that is not being stressed. Everything is working including the Xbox for the kids. Can't wait to get back to finish up some of my thoughts on this build.

Spring break went off without a hitch. We made it to Blu Angles RV Park. Setup for the night and then after only a few hours the kids wanted to go to fishing. So we did some fishing off the Pensacola 3 Mile Bridge, tested out the BBQ slider from the rear and relaxed for the rest of the day.

The week has been great. Lots of driving lots of camping and lots of people wanting to see inside the unit. Got two police visitors while in Pensacola. They were more curious than my kids. We had the pleasure to camp out right next to a crop dusting helicopter. Kids loved that! Enjoyed a great day in Foley Alabama at The Park of OWA. We did a lot of fishing and yes the BBBB slider was a hit. We are now circling back through Alabama and on to Atlanta for some go carting. Not a regret in the world for purchasing this Rescue Truck. I hope to have my hitch in place in a few weeks so I can enjoy the bike on my tour.

I assume this means you have already left Pensacola, right? Did you get a chance to visit the National Naval Aviation Museum while you were here? If not, your kids would have loved it. I live in Pensacola and the museum is located on the Navy base where I worked for 30 years.

Yes. We were there for my brother's retirement a few years back. It is one of their favorite places to see along with the Battleship across the bay.
