My 2000 7.3 power stroke was almost stolen a few weeks ago. Even with the manual trans, someone tried to use vice grips to turn the ignition and broke it.
Paid a locksmith $300 to fix it and I am planning on putting a security system in it next month.
The trucks are very valuable and pretty easy to steal as there are no factory alarm systems or anything. There aren’t a lot of cars from the early 2000s worth that much so for a thief, they are a good target. I would recommend that everyone install an alarm system at the very least, with a kill switch. Difficult to hack those for the average car thief.
