Storing and organizing camping equipment

Ideally getting a dedicated trailer would be preferred. I almost bought a surplus military trailer on CL but decided that it would be too heavy for my vehicle. I do like the smaller trailers and even thought if building up a landscape trailer. I would really like to do an enclosed trailer and outfit it but that is in another dream.

I started working on the oversized bins. That will reside in my shelving. I don't expect to finish them soon but am working on them when I can steal a few moments. I decided to use the Kreg pocket hole jig to assemble it. Here is a peak at the beginning...image.jpg

Walmart has some nice storage boxes that have waterproof lids etc. I am storing and carrying my gear in those on the roof, food and clothing in the rear of the Jeep.

I agree that there are plenty of storage tubs floating around and several different stores. Problem is they are not big enough to contain a lot of the over sized gear that I have. I will use a few store bought containers for the top shelves but that will primarily be used for smaller stuff.

Here is a picture with one container about half full. I filled it up after the photo and began work on the second container. Hopefully by next weekend I can get the second one done and redo the shelving.

Yeah, but carrying those big boxes are difficult without a full size truck. The boxes and then your oversized items packed around them would work a boon!

This is strictly to organize the garage. I would not be taking the boxes with me. Not all the gear that will go in those crates will go on every trip. I plan to mark the contents and try to keep like items together. Then pluck them and transfer them to the car when heading out. I originally had some of my gear in the larger Pelicans but that turned out to be too much to try and fit them in my vehicle. This is why a future trailer or larger vehicle will work best. But for now it is strictly an organizing thing for me in the garage.

Ok. Here is the latest update. Still need to organize it better but it is a start. The boxes already have casters installed and will be finished with a coat of paint once the weather gets nicer. So far I am very happy with the way it turned out.

No time to read the whole thread so if this has been mentioned sorry.
I use old lateral file cabinets I scored from a company that was closing down.

Pro's;
drawers are better than shelves, on shelves what I need is always in the back and I have to move stuff to get to it.
keeps stuff out of sight which makes the garage neater

Con's:
tough to see into top drawer
stuff is out of sight so unless you label well it can be hard to find what you want.
Expensive unless you can score them free of from a used office furniture place.

For me the pros outweigh the cons.

Yes they are the 8 gallon Action Packers

They are pretty expensive for what they are. As Honu mentioned they come in several sizes as found on the amazon link above. The cost of 4 is what I have spent so far on the wooden containers.

Much appreciated! I see they aren't sealed to be water tight either, but that wouldnt be difficult to do. Any recommendations for waterproof/sealed bins? Ones that could be thrown from storgage to top of the car or back of truck?

larger ones that I dont have been wondering about getting a couple very strong feeling when played with at the store to the point I can sit on them easy and no feeling of flex sitting on them !

I have one of these and really like it so far holding up well locks down really nice if not the above I might get a few more of these also seems like pretty steep walls and not to many odd shapes so not as much wasted space
