StoryTeller Overland buys GXV

Can you tell me what kind of issues are being found with the GXV Unimog expedition vehicles? Any specifics on Subframe failures would be much appreciated. I own one that was manufactured in 2012.
Nice looking rig. I think if yours's hasn't fallen off yet, someone might be exaggerating or it was a freak, one-of-a-kind issue.
What has your experience been with yours?

Well, I have become knowledgeable when it comes to all the operations of nearly every aspect of both the Unimog and functions of the various components in the design such as the Outback Inverter / System, etc. GXV has provided no assistance whatsoever….. Unimog is based out of Germany and service in the US is virtually non-existent with parts only being sourced from Canada or UK.

It has been up and down the East Coast but nothing too extreme off-toad. My intention is to take it North to Alaska and then to Patagonia.

I was at GXV in October as I purchased a consigned GXV. I spent several days working with Rene, Mike and their team. I also toured the factory, viewed new rigs being built (had to be almost 20 in the factory), met their staff and even slept in their parking lot.

Here’s my thoughts based on observations. Covid severely impacted their supply chain and their business. They had beautifully engineered million dollar rigs that that they (like many) were stressed sourcing parts and materials. Some where being delivered — but undoubtedly Covid impacted their business.

I’d say they are just working through the problems that any merger brings that is complicated with a supply chain that hasn’t healed from the pandemic.

Our Global Expedition Adventure truck. Picked it up at Global In Springfield MO June of 2019. So far we have about 30,000 miles on it. We love it. Mike and Renee have been fantastic to work with!

that’s an amazing unit! Do you have any regrets or things you’d do differently? Would you be able to share your fuel mileage?
thank so very much for sharing

FWIW, I keep sending info requests to StoryTeller about the status of them making Adventure Trucks. No replies. Makes me reluctant to consider them for a van purchase also. Sportsmobile and Field Vans are very responsive.

No regrets. we get between 8 and 13 mpg. Needs some leaf spring work on the rear. It rides a little stiff. All so going to change over to beadlock wheels. I want to install a Hydrolift on the rear to carry my bike. Also want to do a parcel wrap on the box.

Not sure what type of suspension they use but is there a lot of sway with higher speed driving (highways/interstate)?

Well, it's been over a year since the deal was announced, but I hear rumors they may be getting close to actually doing something. We will see I guess.
