I've never owned a van but based on the number of stuck vehicles I have encountered in the backcountry, almost every one were adventure vans of various makes and models, usually heavily modified. Someone has told them that their van is just as capable as a Jeep and can go anywhere they go - so off they go. There are exceptions, of course, but based on what I've seen, most van drivers should think twice before venturing truly "offroad" unless they have significant offroad driving experience -- and most don't.Interesting statement. I suppose if you mean “no unibody van” like a Sprinter or Transit, I can agree.
But Econoline 4x4 owners might have a different opinion. Check out what Raul does with his Jaleo 2 build, or Ramsey mobbing his Agile 4x4.
And I’m not sure how a truck towing a camper would be more capable. The camper’s suspension will be the big limiting factor there. Never mind trying to back up or turn around on a narrow trail.
