Interesting statement. What makes you say this?

I suppose if you mean “no unibody van” like a Sprinter or Transit, I can agree.

But Econoline 4x4 owners might have a different opinion. Check out what Raul does with his Jaleo 2 build, or Ramsey mobbing his Agile 4x4.

And I’m not sure how a truck towing a camper would be more capable. The camper’s suspension will be the big limiting factor there. Never mind trying to back up or turn around on a narrow trail.
I've never owned a van but based on the number of stuck vehicles I have encountered in the backcountry, almost every one were adventure vans of various makes and models, usually heavily modified. Someone has told them that their van is just as capable as a Jeep and can go anywhere they go - so off they go. There are exceptions, of course, but based on what I've seen, most van drivers should think twice before venturing truly "offroad" unless they have significant offroad driving experience -- and most don't.

owners perspective:
Have a beast mode for 2 years. 38,000 miles
We live off grid most of the time. Our driveway is 7.5 miles of logging roads in the mtns. Sometimes rutted. 2 water crossings just to get to our gate. Van has traversed that 100s of times.

We have also done road trips to Arizona twice, New Mexico once and Georgia twice. These trips were 7-10 days each. 90% of nights stayed in the van.

Vehicle has had zero mechanical issues. The interior build has held up exceptionally well. No rattles. No creaks(except sliding door )

Couldn’t be happier with storyteller. Can call and will get answers to any questions.

Negative: they have had issue with battery controllers and storage batteries. Ours has been unaffected.
