Strange issue with my SR: idles at 1.5K to 2K, but normal when AC is on!

Would you happen to have a part number for it Ray? Sounds like something to keep in the spares kit.

Actually, it's not a critical part to the engine running & it will run fine without it albeit not at 100%.

I don't recall the p/n but you can download the Mitsu ASA program and using your VIN, get the right p/n for your vehicle. I bought my replacement unit on ebay, verifying it was 100% compatible with the p/n I looked up via the ASA program.

HTH.

Couple of notes on the IAC based on recent experience:

1. Apparently there are two styles: one is the original beige unit which fails and the second is the redesigned black unit that is supposed to work better.
2. Dealer wants something like $457 for the part. A mitsubishi junk yard I found online wanted $125, and I just bought a used one off of Ebay for $50.
3. The part number is MD628059 but they say there is more than one...hence call the dealer with your VIN and get the part# from them.

I haven't received it yet..but when I do I'll replace mine and see what happens.

Mitsubishi ASA is the program they use to look it up. Download it and look it up yourself any time you want.:ylsmoke:

It's a windows only program & you can find the link for it along with a host of Factory Service Manuals on 4x4wire's FAQ thread.

I received the used part from Ebay today and just put it in. I let it idle for a few minutes and I drove around the block once. The issue is still there...maybe even worse...too early to tell. Do I need to disconnect the battery to reset the ECU or anything? I'm really confused about this issue and its really starting to bug me. I want to enjoy the car but can't knowing something is not right.

On a side note, earlier today before the IAC swap, a number of times the car would crank but not start. BUT, if I turned the AC on first, it would start.

Just out of curiosity, can the intake butterfly issue cause this? Is there an easy test to determine if the butterfly has anything to do with it? Is there a way to easily bypass it?

I believe so Mike. FastEddy who mentioned that on 4x4wire is pretty knowledgeable and usually won't suggest something unless he's thought it through pretty well but then again, anyone can make mistakes so good idea to check all your sources. The butterfly valve can be bypassed before it fails. Once it fails though, all you can do is remove and seal up the leaking ports or replace it.

Like I said, I'm probably in the same boat and am currently looking into it as well. :(
