streaming radio

How many people are streaming internet radio like Pandora or others while in their vehicles as they are going down the road? How much data does it use up? Thinking about getting a data plan and would love to listen to streaming radio while I drive.

I use it a lot in town, but it does not work reliably on slower mobile data networks in rural areas where the signal is marginal. It stops to buffer every minute or two, which is very annoying. I don't know how much data it uses, I have unlimited and don't watch it. I will say that Pandora seems to work better than any other streaming radio options I've tried out. All of them eat the cellphone battery, though, so you need to keep the phone plugged in to the charger.

I thought about that, I have Verizon now, and really like their coverage for my area. I imagine as time goes on Spring will only get better coverage, although my guess is around that time, they will do away with unlimited data

I'm lucky to be grandfathered in to my unlimited data plan with ATT, so I use Pandora all the time all across the country. It's great!

I stream Pandora on my Droid Bionic with bluetooth headphones at work, and on my Pioneer stereo/nav system in my FJ.

Unlimited data plan with Verizon and 4G LTE.

Sounds great. I am on a family plan with verizon not sure if that makes a difference, currently no data, but I am looking to upgrade. Is it possible to still buy anothers unlimited data plan?? I hear people that leave the USA can sell their phone number with unlimited data.

All of these unlimited data plans are making me jealous and pissed at verizon at at the same time

I was looking around and it appears i can buy a unlimited data plan for around 200, and then buy a 4g phone on ebay or other site. anybody else done this?

While I have have verizon with an unlimited data I seldom go over 2gb and thats streaming radio pretty heavy.. Ill run 3-4hr/day at work for weeks on end and not get close to 2gb..

I concur. I had unlimited data for quite sometime before contract changes and seldom ever went over 2gb. 4 - 6 gb is cheaper. Just hoping family share doesn't exceed. They get you on the line fees now. Either way they'll find a way. I like V's coverage. Went to fair a couple towns outside the city and had coverage. Friends with TM and Sprint didn't.

I wouldn't waste time/money trying to buy another's unlimited plan. All the carriers are coming up with lots of ways to discontinue those grandfathered accounts. Their days are numbered, soon they will all be gone. Data plans are the new cash cow for the carriers. It used to be buckets of minutes, now they give away unlimited calling minutes to sell the data plan.

Streaming large amounts of Pandora will get you over almost the highest available non-unlimited data plans. My solution, listen to Pandora at home, find the songs I like. Then with my Spotify account create a playlists of the songs and sync the list offline. This stores and streams the songs from the actual phone storage, and uses zero data on the go.
