Stupid question of the day

Since I know nothing about trailers perhaps everyone who does can help me out. What are the differences between the military trailers like the m100, m101, m416 and the like? Not really looking to buy a trailer (yet) but researching possibilities for the future just in case I don't win the AT in the contest Thanks everyone for your knowledge, patience and schooling...

Jim, they are relatively all the same dimensions AFAIK.

The M100 has the cargo box welded to the frame whereas the M416 is bolted. The 100 has rounded fenders, the 416 flat topped. The 100/416's have rounded tube upper rails, the M101 has square rails making it easier to mount a watertight lid.

The CDN M101 is also a 1/4 ton (the american M101 is 3/4 ton) was manufactured later than the 416 so finding a clean example may prove a bit easier.

I'm not sure if the M101 is bolted to frame?

I'll add my two cents to this post. The CDN2 M101 is welded to its frame. The weight between gradually increases the newer the trailer model gets. If you check out Yahoo groups CDN2 M101 there is a comparison chart for the various trailers. it includeds weights dimensions ect... Hope that helps

Yeah I knew you'd think of me. Not shopping just learning. Love the idea of "basecamp on wheels" you know; always thinking of possibilities to improve our setup. Thanks for thinking of me. OOh yeah the blackmail thing...won't work this time...she was talking RTT the other day after seeing how easy Chris's was to set and stow. If that future were to happen I have to plan a place to mount it and that leaves two options.
1. Extend the bed rack to fullsize which means I have to climb under it to stow stuff. or
2. Trailer, of course when we win the AT I won't need to know about military trailers so all this learning will be for nothing. Just like college.

Thanks John, I knew one person would actually answer the question without sarcasm. Of course we've never actually met, so you're probably holding back.

Now, what about things like suspensions and brakes, lights etc.

The M100 is about 4 inches narrower than the M416. The offset on the wheels are also different. Here's a picture of my buddies' 416 and my M100.

I'm kind of dense; which or what spindle are you talking about? Where the lunette attaches or the spindle on the axle?

Or the measurement of the width of the axle?

On the Axle.The distance from the back of the spindle to the back of the other spindle? My M100 axle was not there and someone welded in GM
spindles and boly pattern. I want to make it right again with CJ spindles
and 6 bolt hubs. I'm hearing 46"? Right now my tube is 48"

You're thinking of trailers? You have a whole truck bed. A whole bed! I told Jen about the NC trip, and she got pretty excited. I'm going to have to jam my whole family into the back of my XJ with my gear... and I don't even know where I'd put one of those fancy Toyota buckets. I'm thinking about trailers! :coffeedrink:
