They do, to a point. They are still lacking in the low (enough) gear department though for technical offroading that needs very low speeds.
They do pretty good though, even with VERY little power. My '84 GL has a wopping 73hp. And Id venture a guess that it would handle the rocks in those videos a bit better. Between having a true 4wd, and a lower gear to attach such obstacles.

A dual range 5-speed can (and has) been fitted to MUCH newer Subarus. :chef:
