Great work so far. I wish my rig had enough length inside for sleeping, but living in the SW, tent camping isn't so bad.

Thats my buddy Duke. He is a Plott hound/lab mutt. That freaky object he has in him mouth is whats left of his soccer ball. His most favorite toy ever :D

Great dog though. Not quite 2 years old now. And he loves to travel. :victory:

Very cool. Always love seeing something a bit out of the normal. Also that is a really clean suby!

Last weekend was made into a quick camping trip, and we took the little Subaru. Besides the 40+ mph headwinds in the Columbia River Gorge, the Subaru did great.

That wind was horrific though. Combine the wind with a ruptured EGR hose (found when we got home) and the little car got less than 20mpg on the way over. On the way back with no wind I was still able to squeeze 28mpg out of it. Ruptured line and all. It was basically a huge vac leak, so it was running very lean on the top end.

Great trip though. We camped at Beacon Rock state park.

Growing up my parents had a 1980 GL wagon. It was very similar to yours. I love the idea of the Subaru, and it makes me long for the old days when we would travel for hours with 2 adults, 6 kids (two were cousins), and a cooler full of food. :Wow1: somehow we fit, and never really cared. Oh the good ol' days.

So I find myself today weighing every bag/container that is loaded into the Subaru for a 2500 mile trip we embark on Tuesday afternoon.

Im pretty sure we will be pushing the payload limit. The next upgrade will probably be a set of overload springs or EA82 coil overs for the rear.

Im well within payload limits for the tires (amazingly) but she is starting to squat a bit.

Pics to come. :sombrero:

I guess Id better update this. Ive been so busy.

We completed a long trip back to CA a few weeks ago. But not without problems. :coffee:

On the way down, just south of Winnemucca the car really started acting up. Completely out of the blue. Nasty carb problems from what I can tell. While we were there I spent nearly my entire "vacation" fighting with it, trying to salvage a trip. No luck. Even after a complete carb rebuild it is doing the same thing. nasty mid RPM miss and high RPM stumble. And running pig rich. So as soon as I have the chance to pull it into the shop, Ill be on the hunt for a vac leak. And will probably do a weber carb swap on it.

Anywho.... all in all it was a fun trip. besides having to tow it 1 thousand miles home ...

And everyone like pics. So here are some pics...
We did manage to log more than 300 miles off the pavement. And when the car wanted to run, it did fantastic.

Cool Suby! I thought I would add a pic of my old Suby with a lift, 29's and a brush guard. I had alot of fun in that old car!

Awesome. Love the old lifted Subies (and the new ones, too). Saw a MINT '84 on I-5 the other day. Looked showroom new; same color as the OP's wagon.
