This trip was organized by the members of the North American Soft Roaders for the Central region. The date was set in the Spring and the location decided soon afterwards. We set the date for Saturday 8-15-15. We had members attending from Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. The majority of the members were from North Texas. This was designated as a family friendly trip so we had a total of 4 kids and 2 dogs on the trip.
Our plan for the day was to meet up in Valley View, Texas at a Shell station and convoy up to Sundog Trails off-road park in Lexington, OK to explore the riverbanks of the Canadian River. We were going to exit the Interstate (I35) and take HWY 77 for the duration of the trip. We had stops planned at Turner Falls, The Original Fried Pies in Davis, OK, and a final meet up and gas/food stop at Wal-Mart in Purcell, OK.
The Texas convoy met up in Valley View Texas off of I35 at a Shell station. This location was chosen because of its easy access on and off the highway. Our original meeting time was 7:00AM with a departure time of 7:30 but that was moved to 8:00 a couple of days before the event. Our convoy leader John was late so we didn't end up leaving until around 8:30.
Our Convoy leader and wife found us a nice detour (77S) with some winding roads in the woods.
A couple of days before the trip we ditched the idea of going to Turner Falls after learning that the wait would be at least an hour just to get into the gate.
When we drove past Turner Falls there was a 6 mile line from the entrance of the Falls to the highway. You can see the backup in the background.
Soft Roaders taking over the parking lot at the Fried Pies place.
The simple menu at the Fried Pies place with a production line making all the pies fresh (the meat ones at least).
Found a nice shady corner to enjoy our snacks.
