No, no. Back off subject. Some nice weapons there. I see that you have what looks like the S&B 1-8 CC optic on your Knights Armament rifle. I have been waiting forever for the S&B 1-8 ShortDot Dual CC. While I wait I have been looking hard at the Swarovski Z8i 1-8 which is lighter with good glass but potentially less robust than the S&B. Thoughts?

@RF2200 Thanks I was stationed in San Antonio like 3 times and with some of my injuries cold makes life a lot harder!
Now to weigh in on the “important stuff”.. Personally, I would never run a 1-8x on a 5.56/.223 platform with 20” barrels and shorter, even if I went with a free float handguard and a heavy barrel (chambered in .223 Wylde so I could run 62gr and heavier bullets. I have had pretty good luck with the Burris 1-4x optics with the Fastfire IIIs on top, a standard fixed power Trijicon ACOG (4x32). I even like going with just an EO Tech 512 Holo sight with an Aimpoint 3x magnifier in a Larue flip mount or Aimpoint Comp M4 Red Dot which I actually run with a Primary Arms Magnifer.
I mention that because I was so impressed with it that I git one of their .22 LR 1-4x optics and a 1-6x centerfire one. I am usually one to harp on guys for cheaping out and going with something cheap\stupid on their $1K+ rifles like Bushnell, Leapers or NC Star optic (they would be better off spending that money on ammo and learning their iron sights IMO). But I have accepted and now preach the PA gospel (I also like Vortex’s Ted Dots in that price range). You should seriously check them out...
Now I if I were to drink the kool-aid and finally go with one the new fangled chambering I would go with .224 Valkyrie in a 22” or 24” barrel and run a 1-8x optic all day long.

If I were Ford I would focus on bring the Raptor version of the Ranger to the US which they somehow have decided to leave out with their reintroduction of model this year. Perhaps they are too busy bringing in the unibody truck that will slot below the Ranger ??♂️

Have you looked through the Accupower 1-8? Typically that power range has an unforgiving eye box, not to mention big weight penalty, but Trijicon did a good job with this scope. Its heavy but still close to the Shortdot.
224Val sucks, it's a swing and a miss. 6mm or 6.5mm Val is a much better performing cartridge if you're OK with a wildcat.

Have you seen all the coolers on a modern 6.7 powerstroke? It'll follow the Ram path and be a gasser- no room for a winch unless the bumpers comes forward and I doubt they will do that.

Its not just the 6.7
Even my 6.2 2011 is constructed in such a way that it takes one heck of a front bumper to make room for a properly sized winch.
The front end and engine bay is packed in such a way that even the radiator is tilted.
It would take quite the re-design to fit a winch into the front end of a superduty.

I really like the NF NX8 1-8x on a 5.56 carbine, in fact I am waiting one due to arrive Monday for a build. It feels very much like a RDS that just so happens to go out to 8x, plenty of eye relief and no tunneling or alignment sensitivity. I was never much a fan of LPVO's on AR's in the past, always electing to stick with a RDS and a 3x magnifier should I need a touch more magnification. I think a 1-6x or 1-8x or even a 2.5-10x has it's place on a 5.56 rifle especially when used for 3G or in a RECCE type role. All of my SBR's use RDS's though and I see no need to have anything more on them.

A buddy of mine runs the Swaro in comps and he said its great to 500, he likes it better than the NF, but it certainly isn't as rugged as the NF or Mk6/8.

A large frame deserves the ATACR, but if on a budget the NX8 is great too. I think the NX8 is the best AR-15 LPVO currently on the market followed by the Vortex Razor HD GenII-E 1-6x.

The ATACR certainly is nice, but the NX8 has tool less adjustments, is lighter, shorter, and a cleaner reticle.
I plan on installing it on one of the newer style small frame 308 AR-10s. Super slick little package. Perfect for a DMR. Plus all my rifles stay suppressed 100% of the time. So weight and size matter more to me than most.

Same here in regards to the cans, but better glass and turrets matter to me when I am stretching something out past 400m. To be honest I have never been a fan of any of the NF reticles but for man-size targets I am not really too worried about the precision of the reticle like I am on the bigger/longer range stuff.

There aren’t a whole lot of places in GA where I could even reach out to 400m. Middle and south GA have a few a areas, mostly power or gas easements, but up here on the north side it’s very wooded.
In TX 400m is probably a normal shot.

I have not looked at any Accupower optics. I did look at the NX8 and I thought that was a neat little scope. Really, the NX8 is pretty much ideal for a compact lightweight optic but the glass and eye box are not on par with the Swarovski or S&B however, it is quite a bit cheaper as well. I am really trying to keep the weight down so that is why I was looking at the Swarovski, NX8, and the Kahles 1-6x. The S&B 1-8x Short Dot Dual CC is just nice and that is why I want it. I would put the S&B 1-8x in the same area as the Nightforce 1-8x ATACR but between the two I would say the S&B is nicer.
It sounds like no one has much experience with the Swarovski Z8i though.
