Super Raptor

Finally some noteworthy progress. The heart of the project is essentially finished and awaiting transplant. It's just sitting in the frame here. It will go in and come out probably 5 or 6 times before it is permanently installed Much yet to accomplish but a big step here. I love the simplicity. I can't wait to have another diesel project. This thing is awesome. And think, no more cab-offs for major servicing (which I don't expect you'll need in your lifetime anyway)

Looks good! Dumb question, what's the aluminum piece labeled "5W" with the cable hanging off its rear?

Also, may wanna do something about that road-draft tube hanging from your timing gears cover. Given enough time it will make an oily mess on that side of the engine, run it thru a catch can or something to reduce the self-undercoating effect. Working on oily messy engines is the devil, even more so when there's an actual oil leak you're trying to locate... Thumbs up for NOT painting the engine black, that's another horrible idea on a diesel (yet it somehow never sank in with some engine rebuilders).

I'm a 6.7 owner at the moment, but have owned many 12 valves and a 5.9 common rail. I have to say that the most fun to drive Cummins I ever drove was a 24v with a NV5600. It was awesome, but had been an Oregon logging truck so was pretty beat. I'd bet you could drive around town with 10 gallons of water in the box and not lose a drop! Too many hard miles with hoe buckets in the back I guess. Love where your truck is headed!

Off topic but is the "La Providencia" taco truck still there by the feed store on the north side of Tillamook? They make some of the best pastor tacos I've had north of the Mexican border!

Haha yep the taco truck is still there for now, moving into a new lot just a few blocks north very soon.

I think that's throttle assembly, but I'm not a mechanic so I'm probably wrong.

Well your partly right! Its the throttle position sensor. The throttle cable and cruise servo cable goes into the back of it. The cable that on it is the throttle cable. gotta get a cruise servo yet. I am going to either extend the breather tube down below the engine or put the really stupid looking plastic bottle it had on it back on. Not sure which but your right after awhile things get pretty messy under there. I painted it red cause I like red and that's the color Cummins paints theirs. I'm having a special 1 and a half inch by 9 inch long badge made for the valve cover that will say "SUPER RAPTOR" or some such thing. Still a lot to buy and do here but its a big step just getting here. Once the thing is back on the ground (another $1500 or so dollars) the trans and transfer case are next. That's gonna be in the $5000 neighborhood. With the exception of paint and body my last large purchase. One step at a time. Funny all I wanna do is work on the darned thing but I can't come up with money fast enough to keep a steady pace.

Not far from stock on the springs. 200# more load capacity in the front for the engine which is 120 heavier than the power stroke and 400# more in the rear so I don't need air bags. Although it's gonna get a good compressor and air system anyway. I don't want much lift and got about an inch and a half with what I got. As for shocks I'm still thinking about that. I'd like remote reservior shocks like the Fox 2.0 but at $1000 for a set I don't think I wanna spend that much. Any suggestions?

New shocks, Brakes and suspension pieces with the modified battery box and some of the wiring it takes for the conversion. Oh and then there is Betty with her ball! How did she get in there?

Nice looking project. Not sure what motor mounts your using ( hopefully something based off the factory cummins/dodge from 2nd or 3rd gen trucks) but may I suggest making sure you can get your pushrods out of the motor in the truck. Some conversions have the motor back and somewhat high and make getting those pushrods out nearly impossible without lifting cab or removing the engine. Its easy now to measure and drill a couple holes in the cowl that can be plugged, then when it's all together.

You could call it "6BT-Rex" :)

Short for 6BT and T-Rex, the Raptor's, bigger, heavier, more powerful brother!

I like the 6BTrex! Has a ring to it. As to getting the push rods out. I have mixed feelings about this. First if I have put the engine together right I should NEVER have to pull them out. Even if the cam went bad I could still change that w/o having to completely remove them. If a piston hit a valve it MIGHT bend one in which case I would probably pull the engine anyway because it would have a great deal more damage than just a bent push rod. SO why would one NEED to pull a push rod? Is this a weak spot I need to know about?
