Super slow ambo build

Here's Mavis, a 1999 E-450 Excellance typeIII.
The 7.3 only had 114k on the clock.
She was a rural hospital ambulance, then served as a rescue truck for the local volunteers.

Here she is when we first got her home.

Old interior.


Had to do a little deep clean and floor removal.


We built a temporary bed and used it for springtime camping.

Spring was toasty, so we installed a maxxair fan.

Got tired of the plywood and put down some vinyl floor.

Then this happened.

Time to lose a little weight.







That was the front end, the easy end. Due to the box configuration over the rear springs, no photos were taken from sheer frustration.

Now we wait on the wheels.

Trim it til it fits.

They fit just fine.

Wheels are here. We used dodge wheels with center machined out to match the dana 80 hub. Tires are 34x11.50 17 toyo at's.


Good thing we lifted the carport too.

Time to trim the fat and lose all the battery draining gremlins. So thankful that the fd had a full set of schematics for the box.




Removed all of the emergency lighting and sirens. Pretty much all that's left is the rear lighting. Lots of space remaining to create circuits like we want them.

Time to clean some more, and start cutting for the rear bed.

Gutted the rest of the inside and mocked up some cabinets.


Took a break and hit the woods.

Back to the underside. Time to get the transmission ready for 4x4.

Triple disk billet goodness.





You may find it hard to believe, but that fine rug is the original carpet.

Started to put some bits of cabinetry together. Test fit the sink.

Hey Rubberduck I see you made some progress on the sink. It looks good. I somehow managed to shear all 8 lug studs off the left front wheel of the excursion when I hit a pothole on the way to work this week. Its all fixed now but you would be surprised how hard it is to find a 35" tire and wheel in 6' grass.

WOW!!! How many small cars were in the bottom of that hole? Must have been a real crater. Glad you found the wheel.

I guess it just seems slow. I swear I just bought it a couple months ago.
