Sure-Fire Ways to Improve Your Roof Top Tent

Tepui has stopped?
I just received my Gran Sabana and it has them, and my buddy just bought his Kukeman ruggedized and it still has them....

I believe they still include them but don't recommend using them anymore. I picked up my tent from Tepui directly a couple months ago and they still gave them to me but suggested not using them.

In my book, do not need to make them very tight, just a little tension that is pretty much non existent when fold, is enough. 4 years with my ARB and no sing of stress in the material.

Love me some home brew.

Would you be willing to sell a set of your brackets?

I like the home brew solution. Seems Gordigear is all over the potential for rain pooling in the overhang. https://youtu.be/Yhi1nkWYWiU?t=6m42s

I bet a guy could make a simular one with a small load locker type pole.
China mart one http://www.harborfreight.com/ratcheting-cargo-bar-96811.html

Maybe even a spring tension shower curtain rod.
Just thinking out loud here, Vulin's brackets look really professional, and if he chose to sell them I'm sure he would do well.

I couldn't find the Gordigear rod separately on their website, but a phone call to HEIoutdoors would clarify if it was available separately.

I think the ARB solution was to add guy wires to the overhang to keep the roof panel tensioned some. That would probably be pretty easy to add as well.

Red and white (hard wired so no conrroler needed..)..we camped at garden of the gods before I got the whites installed but the reds worked so good we will use them more when reading in the bunk!!

The switches are wired to be lit at all times (the circuit they are on is switched so it's only on when I turn on the truck bed circuit) plenty bright to find at night..

Has anyone figured a way to improve the cover removal/re-install process? Seems like that's at least half the time spent deploying and packing back up... climbing around all sides to get to the zipper, etc, etc. Was thinking about maybe either having an upholstery shop maybe replace the zipper with velco? Other ideas?

I used to work at an auto upholstery shop years ago. I have always stayed in contact with my old boss seeing he was pretty cool. He helped me with cover zipper issues when I first got my RTT. I broke the zipper pull a couple times on it. It was tough to zip up since it sat pretty close the the edge of my pickup bed (I have since raised it with a different bedrack). I asked Randy if wiping the zipper with silicon or something would help. He said not to use anything like that. It will make the zipper come apart. Just wipe it off often with a wet towel to get dirt off it. It seems to help.

TRDParts4U gave me another cover after I bought my Mombasa from there. The zipper on the first cover was bad. I thought of having Randy install Velcro on it to try. He told me it would not last long out in that environment. Plus it doesn't do the greatest job of keeping moisture/rain out. I think I may just have him install a new zipper on it when he slows down in a couple months.

I do have one last set of replacement straps for sale to speed up the closing process though. ; ) I am going to order more material to make more sometime after New Years I think.

Tepui or CVT sells replacement zippers and covers too.

Contrary to what some think, you can lubricate the zipper - use paraffin wax. Just rub it lightly along both halves of the zipper while undone. Amazing results.

You are not alone :)
I hate the zippers on my Tepui.
I wish all RTT manufacturers used the ratchet system like Eezi-Awn does, unless this is an old video and they don't do that anymore.
I think this is simpler and easier to use.

Watch the first 3 mins. of the video.

Mine is not on a roof rack, it is on y trailer. Decided to go this way form many reason, one of them is that my tent is easy to reach, and I do not have to climb to set-it up.
