Suzuki Samurai Custom Camper Build

That's a phenomenal build!

Even more impressive that you made this happen in the minuscule amount of time available to a new father, congratulations on that, too!

Any Samurai expert suggestions on suspension?

I want to stay spring under and was considering YJ's for a little lift, a little added robustness, and better ride. But that said, I'm hesitant to stray too far from stock configuration and end up with some goofy handling characteristics. I also considered OME springs, but I'm worried they might be too soft and not support the slightly heavier payload. Lastly, I'm thinking some economical 3" lifted springs from Low Range might be the way to go????

So far, I'm thinking GVW will be 3,000lbs.

I'd go with the OME's, you can get them in 3 different spring rates one being stiff for hauling weight.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of the variable spring rates. I know you can "add a leaf" to them. I'll go that route, as I've never heard of anyone with OME's who hasn't liked the ride.

just alittle info for you, that guy in taylorsville that you bought the wheels and tires from is picking up a camper soon and will be parting it out and it might get you some nice cheap internals for your build.

Good to know, thx.

Got some 4.16 gears today.

Progress was slow this week. Too much work and baby time to get much of anything done.

Filled all the pinholes last night and spent an eternity block sanding. Almost ready for priming. I am completely over sanding at this point.

This is after 80 grit sanding. Getting very smooth.

:D

Wryly smiling at the statement about sanding. I worked with two/three others in a glassing/fairing/sanding department in a yacht building yard quite a few years ago and 90% of our workload was sanding. Needless to say, the need for intellectual stimuli saw us as the scourge of the other staff of the boatyard. Practical jokes seemed to make going to work worthwhile... take away the idiot board and you're left with... :wings:

The Sami camper is looking good :victory:.

So how fine did you sand before painting?? 220 grit enough?
