It takes all kinds.... that has never been more true than the times we live in.

AND why are folks always knocking the reliability of discos... they are as reliable as the owner / mechanic. 'nuff said. :ylsmoke:

at least the frontend will be reliable.........

 I'll bet there are 150 recalls and/or TSB's just for that hood and grille alone...

That poor Rover, someone grafted a Tumor on the front of it. That is SO ugly.

I'm with Scott B, GM hasn't made a real 4wd since the 1980's (or a quality product for that matter)... Now they just pollute the roads with total junk.

Depends on how you look at GM; as a US manufacturer or as a Global manufacturer

The Isuzu Amigo when built under the Vauxhall and Opel banner ended up as a good vehicle. In fact the 2.8TD LWB and 3.2V6 were gems. The Vauxhall built Brava was about as boring a pick up as it was possible to build but it could be beaten to death and back for years without a whimper..

Mind you back in the day I did run both a K5 Blazer and a 'Burb. The Blazer was an interesting truck, just not suited to European or African overlanding. The 'Burb was a great truck - it had been fitted with a pig of a diesel lump - the Ford York of all things. Starting it on cold days was interesting to say the least; but it could tow the backside of a donkey. And with all that room inside made a great work barge. Cost me less than £500 back in 1986 as no one wanted it. Sold it to buy my first 110 ( a left hooker '83 Hicap, ex factory Saudi gun mount demo truck with a hi-comp 3.5....)

Oh that Disco is a bad bad thing by the way

If that's the case, then I was lucky to have driven them before that time. In all kinds of weather, mud, sand, even snow and ice one winter! I remember the driving experience about them. The motor sounds, the feel of the clutch and shifter, the ride on the backroads. How dumb I was to not ask for one of the trucks after Dad retired his business... Sometimes, I have strange dreams about seeing the truck just slip out of my grasp forever, and I wake up grumpy, asking myself why I didn't take it. Because of the options Dad chose for his trucks, I always associated automatics and rear-end drives with Fords and the real-deal four wheel drives with manuals with either Chevrolets or GMCs.

Maybe we ought not to be hard on the owner, as a "proper" grille was not in stock and he had to "do something" to protect the integrity of his front end's ability to protect the radiator from rocky "disasters" until he got home.
