Spent a cold weekend in the Swell... couldn't have asked for a better December wheeling trip

John and I left town friday afternoon enroute to Ferron. Richard and Jason caught up with us in Price, and we met up with Cody in Ferron. We entered the Swell via the Horn Silver Gulch Road. We camped towards the end of the road in Coal Wash that night, not the best of spots but it was COLD and we were all anxious to get out of the rigs.

Friday Nights campsite, we had originally planned to camp a little further east along a road I had marked on my map. I found out the hard way the road was washed out and impassible between the washout and the snow.

We spent Saturday cruising south on the Eva Conover Road, under I70 at Eagle Canyon, and up to Swazeys Cabin. We camped at a great spot along the road to the Lone Soldier site.

Entering the Eva Conover corridor, really neat area with alot of potential campsites and hikes.

One to push, one to pull! Jason and I know how to keep John's Rover moving ;)

Sunday we traveled back north, under I70 again and north along the Devils Racetrack Trail. From the end of DRT we made our way up and over Fix-It Pass, and out to Buckhorn via Cane Wash.

Heading under I70 via the storm drains.

We camped along the Mexican Mtn Road Sunday night, a warm fire and excellent grub helped make the cold night tolerable. I bailed @ 6:30am Monday morning while the others till slept.

Fog blanketing Castle Dale and Hunington, it was wicked cold dropping into town.

The rest of the pics and report will eventually land on my website!

Geez that looks cold. Considering the storm that hit this area over the weekend, I'm sure it was.

Cool pics and kudos for not wussing out in those frigid temps. Sweet 40's too.

Now THAT looks like a great time. :Wow1: I love snow and cold, winter weather. Traveling through backcountry with that blanket of snow is so beautiful.

Man I wish I lived out west...

Jealous. Been looking out the windows and dreaming. Thanks for posting pictures! I did get to engage the 4WD due to snowy roads this morning, so I got that going for me.

While it was cold (low teens & below at night) thankfully we didn't get too much precipitation... we seemed to dodge the storm everyday. We did end up wheeling through the fresh snow, up to a foot in spots. We really lucked out in many places, the nasty ledges on DRT @ again on Fix-It Pass were all in the sun. We had a few minor stucks, a little body damage and some good food, I can't think of a better way to spend a weekend.
