Swing-out tire carrier

Okay, my wife posted this on an LR forum but I figured I would get a breadth of opinion considering so many folks of different makes and models gather here.

Shawna has a 1995 long wheelbase RR Classic as her trail rig. It is currently stock, (aside from the lift, tires and transfer case swap) and when I deploy she's dropping it off with our welder to get some 'things' done, among those being a rear bumper and swing-out tire carrier.

She was hesitant at first, but she's decided to trim the quarter panels for better departure angle and rid herself of the factory hitch in favor of one built up high and into the bumper itself. She wants recovery points, 1/4 inch steel and a slimline style bumper.

On top of that though she wants a swing-away tire carrier. She bought the LWB for the space, and right now the spare 33 is eating that space and she wants the space back!

Basically she is looking for a tire carrier that will support up to a 35, a hi-lift mount position, a slot for a fuel can and an ammo can to store her recovery gear.

What we're looking for are things we haven't thought of that ... well, now is the time to get it right. If you've got a cool mod on your rear bumper we'd love the input. If you wish you'd done things differently we'd love to hear that too. We'd rather pay the money and get what we won't regret the first time.

All thoughts and input are appreciated.

In the one I have so far chose to build I have 2 arms. Passenger side holds the tire and driver side holds a Jerry can and hi-lift. One thing I have seen that I liked was a guy with a landcruiser added a watertank and and quick relase water nozzles/pump I will look for that link

Dallas-

We looked at them ... not for nothing, but $1600 for a rear bumper? People really pay that? Wow. We've already got a fabricator he just needs our ideas and he'll present us with some designs.

Just becareful if you add a lot of options on the arm (tire, lift, etc etc) that you keep the heavier items by the pin... not the release

There was a recent discussion on pivot spindles/pivot pins etc. worth reading.

For latching I would want the arm to contact two rigid surfaces 90* to each other, and have the latch draw the arm down into the corner of those surfaces. The idea being to allow the latch end of the arm to handle some of the vibration of going down the road and not ask the spindle/pivot pin to carry all of it.
