Syn oil mixed with dino oil?

I run Amsoil synthetic oil in my Ford 6.0 diesel. Ford replaced the turbo today and I noted on the service record when I got home they had added 2 quarts of oil when it was serviced. What's the word on how this will affect it? Should I change the oil?

I would consider it since Amsoil is a pure synthetic(polyalkyleneglycol) there are issues with polyglycols used in Amsoil, or other pure synthetics, don't mix well with normal mineral oils. Even Mobel1 website discourages the practice of mixing pure synthitic and dino.

The biggest thing about mixing oils is the additive pack...depending on what you mix, you can have additives cancel each other out or end up with too much of a certain additive.

If you're concerned about it, take it back to the dealer, explain the situation, and ask that they change out the oil. You will probably need to provide them with the Amsoil, however, as I doubt dealerships carry the product.

As far as causing something catastrophic, no. Synthetic/petroleum blends are available over the counter. Its not like the oil is going to curdle and die.

From AMSOIL's FAQ:

AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are fully compatible with all petroleum motor oils, and there is no danger in mixing the two. Mixing AMSOIL and petroleum oil, however, is not a recommended as a general practice. Performance and long drain intervals will be sacrificed and the oil should be promptly changed, at maximum, within the next 3,000 miles.
