Tacoma Brake Longevity...

Wow, my front on the 2nd gen tacoma only lasted about 80,000 (must be a little heavy on the peddle), have a box of pads in the garage (oem) but never installed them before I sold it (had to install a set of cheap pads as my other pads did not arrive before I took a trip). The 98 4Runner does need new shoes in the back after about 115,000 miles but they could go a few more service intervals before needing to be replaced. Might need to pony up the 60+ dollars for another set of oem shoes.

I was not happy with the braking performance of my 2010 Tacoma. After years of owning several fast cars and building race cars, I expect a lot out of my brakes and the stock ones didn't measure up. So I changed my rotors to cross drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads. Big difference. It is a shame that Toyota didn't put the same brakes on the Tacoma as on my 03 4Runner. Nothing comes close to four wheel disc brakes. It seems there would be a market for a kit to swap the 4Runner rear discs onto the Tacoma.
