Tacoma Rear Bumpers

A buddy of mine that I work with posed a question that sort-of stumped me. He has an 07 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. He is looking for a swing away bumper like this one. My questions for the portal members are this : Are the bumpers for the other models of toyota (highlander, and 4runner) mountable and useable on the Tacoma? If so can someone recommend a bumper that isn't custom that has a 33" tire swing away in the center, 2 jerry cans on either side and a highlift that either mounts horizontally underneath and behind, or diagonally behind the tire? I included a couple of thumbnails to get people thinking... Any points in the right direction would be helpful.

Gracias everyone...:costumed-smiley-007

They are not compatable AFAIK. There are several offroad fabricators out there- I am having a rear bumper made by CBI Offroad called a TrailRider and am having them add a reat tire/highlift carrier to it. They are well respected.

Also note that ANY Tacoma with a custom built Tire Gate Bumper will require reinforcement plates welded to the rear sides of the frame.
Go to my SIG below and it will take you to the Garage Section in TTORA to see the details.

In this case I would also talk to CBI offroad. they can make it how you'd like it.

Yes talk to CBI, (the ones who make the bumpers in your pics) they are currenly working on my tacoma rear bumper, it is high clearence with a removable tire swingout gate, Two can holders, hi lift mount, and CB antenna mount. They are also working on prototyping some rear quater pannel protection and LED back up lights in it for me.

They can add all the options you want to any one of their rear bumpers, and they make an amzing product.

Thanks for the responses

Thanks everyone for your input. I haven't really looked to much into custom stuff. I am now asking, of you guys who have gotten custom things fabbed up, if yall can share your designs and a ballpark price for what you all payed for them? I don't want to overstep individuals creative boundaries. So, please feel free to share what you wish. Thanks for all the inputs so far.:victory:

Early Tacomas
http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80258

Later Tacomas
http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73261

You would have to look through the photos, but most of the guys/gals here have custom bumpers.
The main players are...

CBI (I have theirs).
Demello
Trail Gear
Stubbs
4X Innovations
All-Pro
Mossyrocks
Shrockworks
Slee
Marlin

Then you have your local shops, that you can find from your local 4-wheeling clubs from Toyota, Jeep, etc.
Ball park pricing is all depends on what you want the bumper to do.
I have seen stuff in the sub $500 and stuff a hair over $1200.
Best to talk to the builder to get a better feel of the price and timing to complete.
If at all possible find someone that has the shop's stuff so you can inspect it and ask if they had any issues or love the product.
Good luck.

For those getting a custom rear bumper on a '05+, are you planning on reinforcing the frame? I have read about frame strenghening on the older models but nothing much is said about it with the newer Tacomas due to their beefier frames (I don't think CBI is suggesting it). Thoughts?

Here is a list of Rear Bumpers for 05+ : http://ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=145030

Contrary to what TejasYota said, there hasn't been any indication that the 05 and newer frames need to be reinforced like the older models when adding a rear bumper. I have had a very heavy rear bumper mounted on my 05 for over 3 years now and there isn't any indication that my rear is sagging.

But, if you were to reinforce the frame it would only add to the rigidity and strength. It is just not necessary like the older trucks.

Add Aluminess to that list. They have a nice dual swing out rear bumper for the 05+. From what I have heard it is top notch stuff. Link

I have heard of them... fairly new company, say 2001-ish.
Only comment I would have is that if you plan to rock crawl, go to the other companies I mentioned.
If you plan to Expo - these guys should fit the bill fine.
Aluminum has it's plus and minus.

If the part was made the same size and shape.
Plus:
Strength to weight ratio.
Corrosion resistance
Build time and maintenance on cutting tools.

Minus:
Higher cost
Low yield point
Low ultimate tensile strength

Sorry for all the large pictures, just grabbed them from another post!

side note: i guess this particular bumper is un-painted because the person who ordered it wants to match the color with the rest of there armor...

Enjoy! :sombrero:

 That is a very nice bumper. Anyone know if they make a non-high-clearance version with the swingout (their website doesn't show pics of that setup)? Or maybe the high-clearance bumper has extra bracing / attachment points necessary to carry the weight of the swingout/tire/cans.

[off topic] Their photo album has a "Tacoma Front Bumper" folder but there's no pictures...I'd be interested to see that as well [/off topic]

^ I'm pretty sure if you emailed Kevin (the owner) he would help you out! The rear bumper you see above is from his production line, the tire carrier and everything else was custom. I would think he could definitely make the swing out on his non high clearance bumper. Email him on his website, see what he says.
