Tacoma TRD Pro driven

The first sentence above is the biggest assumption I've ever heard, and the third sentence is most anecdotal bit of information I have ever heard.

Tell me how many miles your two guys have in their trucks and I'll add it to the 27 million miles of data above.

Don't F150s come stock with P rated tires?

Just going by what I've noticed driving around. Two different class trucks that get marketed to different groups. Do you think the usage is the same between the two trucks?

One other thought (from a Toyota guy, I admit) Build Quality - my Taco has over 200k miles is tight, runs great and I would drive anywhere in it.... "most" of my Ford and Dodge friends have sold their trucks well before that mileage due to so many issues... Again, if I switched out every couple years, more MPG over longevity would be important to me... but for now my 12 and 21 year old Toyotas are doing everything I want and I plan to keep both for another 4-8 years (fingers crossed)

That sticks in mind as well, all of my Toyotas have been stellar...282K miles on the current one.

I could use a bigger truck though...not sure if the Tundra is the answer though. Heck, I am even consider restoring a 67-79 F250 with a modern power plant. If I am going to get "ok" mileage, I want a bigger truck (Keeping the Taco as the beater truck, tho') Probably an idiot for considering old iron...'cause the new trucks sure nice, no doubt.

The taco is suppose to get another face lift. Still no signs of a new model yet. I'm guessing 2016 before we see anything new with the taco. It's way overdue and Toyota knows it.
With the new TRD Pro line. You know Toyota isn't gonna run the Pro for a year so it be at least closer to 2016. Hope they bring up the MPG on their trucks but it seems their hybrid line is helping them meet average mpg standard to have to invest in making the trucks mpg any better

The big three domestic trucks are getting better MPG but resell valve of a Toyota is much better. The fit and finish of a Toyota is so much better than any of the big three. Even talked to my friends who work in a body shop say replacement parts fits much better while the domestic vehicles need some massaging to fit correctly. And this is all after it's been in an accident.

By the way, is this for all trim levels of F150's? Or a specific engine/drivetrain combo? (ie Ecoboost 4x4). Same with the Tacoma's--V6 4WD and 2wd mixed in? I would think the 27 gazillion miles of data is somewhat useless without this info.

Regarding Build Quality - It seems that domestics have made some leaps forward, and I know Toyota has faced some QC issues in the last few years. I'm wondering how big that gap is now and what it will be like in the next few years. I would venture to guess it will start to close quick, especially as I see a lot of out-sourcing of parts and auto makers moving plant operations closer to the specific regions.

I have test driven all of the new trucks in recent months...they all seem pretty well built to me. I don't know if brand really matters anymore...think it is going to come down to specs that is going to separate them. I haven't had a chance to drive the Ram EcoDiesel yet...can't find any.

Toyota seems like they are starting to loose some of their loyal followers, because they tend to drag their feet...and their build quality just isn't like what it used to be.

I have absolutely no idea why Toyota can't come up with a mid-size v6 truck that gets 28-30mpg. My number one complaint (by far) about my current '05

Can't really say the facts follow your thought process here...

look at the facts in this thread:

(I will note, that people with good experiences are probably more likely to post in that thread and there are many other brands with good success as well)

That really tells me nothing... my thoughts and opinion come from me personally owning Toyotas over the last 25 years, and reading Toyota forums other than this one, especially after the announcement of vehicles like the Canyon diesel the Ram 1500 diesel...you can read some of that "Toyota disappointment" right here in this thread. That thread is almost as bad as a poll. Sure you count me as one of the people that is happy with their current Toyota ownership, however...I am not really liking what they have out there now, believe there are better options to pick from.

Look at the comment right above yours. ^^^^

I did say they are loosing "some" (not all) of their loyal followers. I am one of many. Just look at the article Jonathan Hanson wrote about the Tundra...he seems disappointed with Toyotas direction...same with his mechanic Bill Lee...(I know Bill as well)

I used be just like you and make up excuses for hy Toyota are they way they are...I am changing my tune though.

I sometimes feel like I'm in one of those stupid commercials where Honda/Toyota drivers take the new Fusion or Focus for a test drive and are blown away. I have been a Toyota/Honda follower since the mid-90's, but I have come to realize that they aren't like what they used to be in the 90's and the same for the other auto makers. Not saying I'm leaving the Toyota camp, but definitely not blindly following like I used to back in the day, either.

I love the competition .... The truck buying public is the winner .

Whether it is Ford introducing the aluminum frame to cut weight and increase MPG , or the RAM eco diesel , or the GMC Canyon diesel , it really seems like Toyota will have to step up its game and innovate to compete . And yes , they can no longer rest on their laurels of having the reputation as the ONLY car maker that could provide a quality truck...

..and Ryan , are you calculation the 4 cylinder engines into that Tacoma MPG average ? 'Cuz when I look at Fuelly MPG averages across the years for the V6 Tacoma , I don't see 19.18 MPG , that seems pretty wishful for daily driving the Tacoma V6....

That is how I am feeling. I love my Tacoma... had for 12 years, racked up a bunch of miles, it has been and still is a great little truck. The things is, the '14 Tacoma isn't grossly better...and it should be. There isn't anything Earth shattering about it to make me buy one. So I look at the Tundra...sure it is a nice truck, considering the other options out there imo, it is at the bottom of the choices. Then if you compare full-sizes to the Tacoma...believe they blow the Tacoma out of the water, with power, fuel consumption, capacity, and the shear size of them to be able to haul more gear.

It used to be...I bought a Toyota because it was a Toyota, now I dunno.

Not sure why the drum brakes are being bashed, pretty sure the Tacoma has the best stopping power in its class.... (over the rear disc brakes in the ridgeline, & frontier)

I personally like disc...waaay easier to change pads than shoes. I just did mine, replaced the drums as well...I should of spent another couple hundred bucks and did the disc upgrade. But since I dumped $4000 into repairs recently...didn't feel like spending any more money on that truck. I am also redoing my house as well...have been hemorrhaging money lately, probably a good thing I am not totally crazy about the current Toyotas or that would really drain the ol' bank account. :ylsmoke:

I'm in the same boat... but dang if some folks take it personally if you criticize Toyota.

Because heavy use requires you to take the drums off to clean and adjust the brake dust doesn't go anywhere and when water gets in. It turns to mud. The self adjusting doesn't always work if you never use your e brake.

Disk are better but I hate how Toyota still integrated a drum e brake. It's so much weight and much more parts.
