If you have a 416 or m100, mbt, or Bantam for that matter.. have you cut a tailgate in it? or is there one cut in? I have a m416 in good shape, but it has a few little rust holes in the rear panel. It would be so much easier just to cut and tailgate this trailer. Now its in good shape and still can bring a good $ for the MV collector.. but it would be easier to deal with now with a gate... I am planning on building a new trailer from scratch soon.. and parts are piling up.. but its at least 6 months away..
So cut or not..

tail gate

I have a 416 trailer and had been thinking the same thing. It is in excellent shape and thinking about selling it. Has brand new wiring harness for that trailer. For now no cutting.

If you plan on selling it dont cut it.

I put a CJ tailgate on mine and it really helps with loading and unloading.

I vote for chopping it provided it isn't a WWII trailer. The later ones are much more common and probably won't be "historic" any time soon. Just one obvious request. Make it look like it belongs! No plywood or aluminum diamond plate!:yikes:

It will bring more money uncut when you sell it. I have seen alot of hack jobs that really compromise the structural integrity.

Oh, ******, cut it. Make sure you post pics on the process. I'm going to put a gate on mine when the weather warms up a bit. I also have some bows from a larger M101 that I'm going to downsive to fit my M100. A local awning company will make an OD top for it.

My M100 already had a tailgate cut out

So I finally decided to straighten up the shoddy tailgate mod BUT went ahead and ordered a solid replacement panel (85 bucks) from "Jeep Panels Plus". The replacement panel looks identical to the original so if the future owner wants to restore it or I decide I don't like the tailgate, the panel can be welded in.

I cut one in my CDN M101 trailer for it will make it easier to get things out of it when RTT is deployed?

I added a support on my Bantam.....Felt it was the right thing to do....plus if gives me a place to mount my shock for my lid.

I drilled a thur-bolt on each side to lock it in place. It has beefed up the integrity of the panels on the trailgate side.

I welded in a CJ7 tailgate only becouse my m100 was already cut out for one.
If it's a WW2 trailer or M100 and it's in great shape don't cut it. Cut all the others LOL

I have a 55 year old M100 (Private Marvin) that I pulled around for years but didn't have the heart to modify. I was so glad when the M101 cdn came out surplus and I could chop the heck out of one. Adding the tailgate to it had made it so much more useful and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. FTR Marvin is now hauling one load of firewood to the hunting cabin each year. He seems to like the exercise.
