Are there any other differences besides the wheels?

And SDDiver5, there are a couple of things I don't like about the Xterra. The navigation takes a bit to load when you first start the car and it's a bit slower coming up with a route than my cellphone. Also, twice I've run into the problem of it not finding the place I wanted until I searched for the exact place a different way. For example, I wanted 54 University Ave in a local city. So I went to search by street, but it didn't list that city in the group of cities that had a University Ave. So I tried city first, then street, and it worked, but only if I typed "Univ" and scrolled down the list. If I spelled out all of University, it didn't show it. Also, you can't enter places when driving, which can be really frustrating. Other than that, the navigation has been able to find some newer or obscure places. And the plastic in the back, while easy to clean, makes groceries slide all around, and scratches quite easily.

Ive had no issues with the nav the couple times ive used it. The 2014 has the new nissan connect and its pretty quick and navs well. The '14 gets heated seats as standard, the new wheels, updated infotainment system, and some other minor changes. Idk about previous years, but the current nav has 3d mapping, traffic info on route (colored lines like google maps), streaming bt audio, etc etc. Its a really nice system.

I think I've got all that except 3D mapping. I haven't used the BT audio though as I don't have music on my phone and I like XM.

I under estimated how much I would like sat radio.

We got about 4" of snow today and had the X out in it. no issues going/turning/stopping in 2wd or 4wd.

You may be interested in the Rex Rug mod or a weather tech cargo mat

To the OP, your new truck looks great! I have a '12 lava myself. I love the color!

I love having the easy clean cargo area, but I will probably add a weather tech mat also.

Thanks! Ill try to grab one or two more shots today if I can.

You're path to the X mirrors my own, I looked at a loaded Tacoma but after the dealership jerked me around I walked into the Nissan store and came out with the X 2 hours later! I took mine on a 2K trek to the smokies 10 days later.

Now understand it replaced a '83 Disco which I loved except for the repairs, my mechanic knew me by first name...and so did the rental car counter.

I wanted something that would be close to as capable as the Disco with the enhanced reliability...I think I have it in my '12 Pro-4X

Couple of my notes;

- Handling is better than the Tacoma and MUCH better than the 4Runner, it's not as crisp as the Disco but not bad
- Rear suspension is too soft, we loaded it down on the Smokies trip and it did not fair well, I have added firestone bags to the back and tembrens to the front. I will be looking at the OME set up with the Dakar rear springs in the next 6 months, I don't need the lift bu the improvement in feel is worth it.
- The seats are comfy but have no lateral support......the Disco's were so nice...oh well minor trade off.
- the stock tires are not great in mud, they tend to hold on to it, I have 16K on them now so I am hoping to justify new GY silent armors this summer, I had them on the Disco and they are very nice.
- The read hatch in under the bed is nice but I tend to forget what I have in there :)
- the rack is not great but I used the top storage area for my recovery gear, you can modify it to lock but I have not yet.
- I will be putting a Baja expo rack up there this spring and will replace the lights with LEDs
- I have a Maxterra rear bumper that I have not put on yet...(the 6 bumper bolts are a real pain)
- I believe he My be confused with someone else) also makes a front class III mount that I plan on getting instead of a bumper, it's very slick and makes it possible to stow the winch when not needed (90% of the time)
- I really have not challenged it enough to lock the rear end yet
- I am going to look at programing the box to see if I can get better low range torque out of the engine, at this point it really doesn't kick in until 4k or so
- I replaced the interior lighting with LEDs (amazon) and they make a great difference
- I do miss the space I had in the Disco but it made me trim down on what I used to carry (allot of redundant stuff to repair the Disco)
- the rear seat folds down in such a way that a fridge will fit there nicely and you can store things under it....a M44 fits perfectly :Wow1:

I got a white one, which considering I am i NE Texas is a good thing but they did not have the 5sp in stock, which is ok since my wife cannot drive a 5 sp but it would have been nice.

I am only getting 15mpg intown and 19 or so when I am all highway alone (not loaded), I knew this going into it but it would be nice to get better. Once again I wish they would bring over their diesel engines...i would trade my in tomorrow.

As you noticed the forums are more offroading inclined but since the X is a niche SUV they do have allot of good info on parts and modifications.

Good luck your new X......I plan on keeping mine for a long time!

Thanks for the feedback all.

Ill search for your build with the LED interior lights.

When i drive west, im going to hit up that company that makes those locking center console boxes and see if they want to use my xterra as a fit mule to get those done for us.

I really think there is some added efficiency to be had with letting the engine breath, and if you are inclined, a retune for 89oct or better. Cam timing/phasing in motors can accomplish quite a bit, including the low end tq you are looking for. From the factory, they have to tune it for emissions standards...re tuning the ignition timing, cam phasing, and fuel trims for a little better fuel would most certainly pay huge dividends. Last car i tuned, for example, was my subaru. It was rated at 26(i think?) mpg from the factory....when i finished with it, it made well north of 400hp at the wheels and routinely trimmed 32mph on the highway. It was all in the calibration....after ive run it for a while Ill talk to the guy with the Nissan tuning software and see what he thinks, but there is definitely gains to be had.

being that most of my trips will be solo excursions, i need to find a way to get a winch on board without totally ruining the front end. I really dont like the look of bull bumpers (personal preference)...also, how big of a tire fits in the stock underbody carrier? Can I get a 33" on stock wheels under there? im thinking like a 255 85/r16 if/when i do eventually go up.

The winch mod I was talking about bolts to the frame and is only a class 3 (IV?) hitch, you only have to cut the bottom most portion of the factory bumer to make it work. I will try to find the fellows name, it runs about $550 but he will also customize it for you. One fellw added a compressor behind the bumper and had the connection port built in....very stealthy

The stock bumper winch mount is made by a guy going by the screen name of RockyMtnX ... here's the thread for it: http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39914; Surf and Snow built his own, if you want another take on it and want to do your own building. I think he can do a front receiver, or a winch mount, but not both. The bumper mods to get the cradle to fit are minimal (and only require trimming plastic) ... IIRC, it replaces the stock steel bumper under the bumper cover. Another benefit is that true front recovery points (vs. the stock hook, which works but is not secure for a shackle) are integrated and tied to the frame.

255x85r16 will fit in stock spare location, as will 285x75r16 ... both will also fit on stock rims and stock suspension (this may have been mentioned above, if so, my apologies for duplication), and only require some massaging of the rear of the front fender liners. Fender interference becomes an issue with more wheel offset, more than it does with more tire diameter or width ... so folks running aftermarket wheels tend to wind up doing some trimming at the rear of the front fender openings. Usually just a fold of the pinch seam and some minimal sheet metal trimming gets clearance for 33s on aftermarket rims ... up to 35s and there's other considerations (tire weight and front drivetrain longevity) besides just clearance.
