Tarps ************ What to get for the poormans awning???

Finishing up a set of 4 (one in each corner) removable posts on my off road trailer. The idea is to be able to hang a tarp(s) off the trailer and then use adjustable tent poles as the outboard supports. Like the other recent thread on this subject shows.

Stopped at TSC and looked at several sizes and materials. Wow what a selection. Walked away totally confused on material selection, thickness, color etc.

Do I want to get a el-cheapo that can be thrown away after it it rips ? A HD canvas model that seems extra strong but extra pricy.

Perhaps a thick plastic model that is priced some wheres in-between ?

If I just do one side it will be about a 6 x 10. If I cover both sides and the trailer all at once we are looking for something around a 6 x 25.

What are you guys doing ? A good source would be a plus.

Hope to have some pictures up soon to help clarify the setup.

Might I suggest going the cheap route and try it out first. See how many times you will actually use it.

I just picked up one of these: http://www.bargainoutfitters.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=328267 Can be found on Sportsmans Guide, Amazon, etc. Its exactly like the Kelty 12x12 except it cost $20 instead of $70. I like it because it has lots of different options for tie down points based on how you want to configure it.

I can not remember the exact thread but this was covered a few weeks ago. I posted my el cheapo setup which worked well untill we were camping on the lake and ended up with 50mph winds. Honestly the weak link was a tent pole that slipped and put extra strain on a gromet ripping the semi heavy duty tarp. Looking at a possible kelty tarp now or maybe a cabelas XPG tarp for about $80. I plan to tack weld the tent stakes at the keeper to solve that problem.
