Tell me about Subaru reliability

They are about as reliable and durable as you are going to find. Combine that with vault like safety, decent economy and the best AWD system in the industry and they make quite an appealing package, especially for those in inclement climates.

We're a two Outback family, one '97 the other '98. Both great cars. The big weakness I see is the head gasket. Otherwise, very good. You see 'em everywhere in snow country for good reason.

the head gasket issue has been addressed post '98. My 2006 is a 2.5l turbo and with 120k on it with no problems, I am hoping to go another 100k with it.

If you get one with the 4spd auto, there is a great mod for the center diff. Basically, a push button CDL. and all it involves is shorting two terminals on the trans electrical connector.

If you have any specific questions regarding Subarus, you can PM me. I help run a local Subaru Owners forum in Maine.

In Chile where we have mountains and snow country like Utah, Colorado, Montana, etc. you see Subarus everywhere, in fact, they sell way better than Chevy and Toyota in their categories, and have a way better resale value. Subarus are higly reliable as any true japanese brand, you still see Brats and MVs and some old Legacy or Leones around. Chile is like the third biggest market in the world for Subaru, imagine the new 2010 Outback Wagon was sold here in Chile before the US, and Chile has 17 million habitants :bike_rider:

My dad loves his '03 Subaru Forester. He considered giving the car to my little brother who is going to college this year but back out because he couldn't let it go!
