Question 1: just wipe it out with a paper towel then toss the towel. Sprinkle some coarse sea salt in first to aid with surface cleaning.
Question 3: yes, you can use a bulk tank with standard adapter

I wasn't going to respond to Question 2 mainly because I am curious about other people's responses. It's an interesting thought and one I would not have come up with. I think it would work and work well. The problem is that, like cast iron, with proper care the skottel's cooking surface will get better and better over time. Burning charcoal would cook the seasoning off every time, so you'd be starting from scratch. Maybe it would be worth it for your application, but I wouldn't do it personally.

Question 2: The pan's seasoning is pretty tough. The coals don't really get hot enough to burn off the seasoning. I think putting coals in the Skottle with the Dutch oven on it will work.

After the you are done. Dump the coals, clean the pan and lightly oil again. If any section of the pan's seasoning is damaged, oil the pan, put the burner under the Skottle and heat up the pan until the the oil has evaporated or smoked off. Good as new!

^This goes against every fiber of my being as a responsible (anal retentive) CI owner, but it could absoloutely be a reasonable trade off vs carrying a DO table. Now you'll need to work on a topside semi-circle windscreen :)

I have not tried using the Skottle as a Dutch oven table, however the Skottle being concave might be a natural windscreen all on it own! :ylsmoke:

Someone might have to try!

Now, yet another reason I need a Skottle insert for the IGT! Dutch Oven Table!

Exactly what I was thinking! I haven't gotten the SP CI tray and now see this working well. The lids of our dutch ovens are still suitable for cooking after of holding quite a few coals in their lifetimes :)

So I've used my Skottle thrice in the week since I received it, and I love it! Now I've got a question for more experienced users on how they pack it:

For those of you with the Blue Ridge carry bag: do you all generally leave the burner attached? And if you have the lid, do you just put it over the burner? These seems the most intuitive, and everything fits into the bag just fine, but I find that the eye bolts for the burner are proud enough from the back of the skottle that the lid makes contact with the bolts. I'm worried that if I ever subjected the bag/lid to any force, that the eye bolts would deform the lid.

I've already added an S-Biner to one of the leg-mounting eye bolts to hang the lid (since I don't have the Tembo Tusk table), and I suppose I could unthread the burner bolts and clip them there for safekeeping...

Herbie,

Good to hear you loving your Skottle grill!

No problem keeping the burner attached when putting the Skottle away in the Carry Bag. I also put the lid over the burner in the bag, however, the lid is delicate and could dent. I have been careful and have not had any issues. I also keep two or three bottles of gas in the bag as well.

Good idea with attaching the S-Biner to on the leg eye bolt to hold the lid when not in use. A plain "S" hook can also be used by closing the top part of the "S" over the eye bolt loop.
