Tembo Tusk Scottle Recipes, Tips and Tricks

I'll have to agree with Chris on all his points.
IGT table with Skottle becomes my compact kitchen setup and as I originally wanted, it will allow me to use the skottle at home on my counter top. Easier for me to setup instead of having the Skottle on its own.

I'll butt in and give my thoughts while we wait for the others :

1) wider user of the IGT table
2) counter-height cooking with easy access to additional prep surface without moving from station to station
3) common fuel arrangement - larger propane tank with use of distribution tree -among appliances (i.e. PartnerStove) so more complex meals can be prepared

Generally I don't break the my big snowpeak IGT out unless I'm cooking for a bigger group. I think the Skottle fits in well for bigger group cooking.

You'll also find that the snowpeak bunch are gear nerds and/or foodies, so why not have the Skottle in the repertoire? ;)

I agree 100% with the above - perfectly captured. I would add this - many of us who use the IGT eat goggi or yaki/yakiniku style and sit to eat at the table while you cook. I'm sure there must be Korean restaurants in Anaheim? I'm white but grew up in Seoul.

There is currently no great 'wok' IGT insert for us IMO. The pieces shown in the pics are Japan only (which is still doable) and I don't think there are many Giga-Power Li-burner stove owners in the US at USD$500. Why not have the skottle fill the need of burner + the fact that it's a cast iron cook surface with some cultural history? This also opens the skottle to a new audience who may not have considered one as a stand alone :)

I would much rather my cast iron skottle from you fill this need

Maybe a poll for interest in the SP thread? I'm willing to commit seed money if needed :)

OK! All three points make great sense and the Skottle is perfect for eating directly off the pan. The points also solve a number of issue when it comes to multiple purposes for both the Skottle and the IGT.

JamesC, I don't think I want to poll the SP thread yet, this is too early. However I might need help in finding a local member of the forum who has an IGT table I could borrow for a bit.

Thanks everybody for great input, it is quite an eye opener!

IF you were in PHX, you could take my 2 and 4 unit IGT tables. I'll be in Hawaii for 3 weeks so I won't be using it :)
On a more serious note though, as JamesC mentioned, SP followers are always finding ways to adapt other brands of cooking devices to the IGT system. I think if you can make a Skottle adaptor for IGT you would open another niche market!

I have been experimenting with a steam cover. What do you all think?

It worked very well at steaming and keeping food warm on a cold windy night. Yes, the steam cover does have a hoop for hanging when not in use.

And the best part is that the cover will fit in the Carry Bag.

Any ETA on the accesories?

I should have the steam covers by next week. I'll post up as soon as I have them up on the website.

In the works:

1: Bamboo top for the Skottle when not in use.

2. Wind shield to protect the burner from wind.

Hi Jerry,

We could have used the wind shield this past week in the Coahuila desert! Some intense winds. We were imagining we needed a typical thin flat plate shield that can bend easily then 18-20" by maybe 4-6" wide with four small tabs housing neodymium magnets for flexibility of where to adhere the shield below the skottle?

It will take two Snow Peak IGT 'units' to house the skottle into the IGT frame :)

Thanks for the ideas! I will be "Wind" testing a few different windshield designs this coming week. I'll post up what makes the grade later.
