See attached pic yakima outdoorsman without the basket. I have these yakima outdoorsman, minus the basket and was thinking about safely building a platform that would only be a place to throw up my ground tent.

In the summer months I would really like to sleep up there away from the ground and feel I might be able to construct a lightwieght platform that would support my weight while I sleep. Let me know what you think or if anyone has don't anything like this.

My tent is small and would not need much footprint to setup.

I think the sleep high concept has its place ... Africa and such places.

But IMO you would be far better off setting up underneath the rack.
It would be easy to make it work

I made a fold up box for a ground tent for my truck. It mounts on my ladder rack.

This is a picture of the Mk1 Mod1. I am rebuilding it currently because the one pictured here was not tall enough to hold the tent and the mattress all folded up inside.

Here here is one with the whole schmear deployed. Still the Mk1 Mod1 version.
